Position Summary

The Mortgage Loan Officer plays a crucial role in the solicitation and development of a diverse range of residential mortgage products. This position involves significant engagement in external sales activities, including collaboration with real estate professionals and other referral sources. The focus is primarily on direct, single-family loan transactions, and candidates typically require up to two years of relevant experience.

Key Responsibilities


- Evaluate and process loan applications, including credit and mortgage status checks, while informing applicants who do not meet qualifications.


- Conduct comprehensive loan interviews to gather necessary customer information for initiating loan transactions and provide relevant loan information and services to clients and realtors.


- Prepare and maintain records and reports related to loan origination and closing activities as required.


- Address inquiries from potential clients regarding various mortgage and construction loan options, providing insights into the organization's lending policies and procedures.


- Screen applicants and submit qualified applications to the Loan Originator for approval, while supplying the Processor with any additional required information.


- Request personal employment and credit checks, as well as appraisals for properties or construction plans under consideration.


- Promote additional products to loan customers, including insurance options and credit cards, as available.


- Foster strong relationships within the banking community, home construction, and real estate sectors to stay informed about property values and to expand a professional network.


- Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and applicable regulations, including the Bank Secrecy Act and the Patriot Act.


Qualifications

Knowledge and Skills

Experience
Familiarity with Federal Housing Authority (FHA), Veterans Affairs (VA), and Federal National Mortgage (Fannie Mae) loans, as well as construction financing.

Education/Certifications/Licenses
Maintaining active registration with the National Mortgage Licensing System is required throughout employment.

Interpersonal Skills
High levels of trust and diplomacy are essential for effective communication with clients, colleagues, and external vendors, often involving sensitive information.

Additional Skills
Knowledge of current mortgage interest rates, fee procedures, and consumer loan products is vital. Proficiency in loan origination software is also necessary.

ADA Requirements

Physical Requirements
This role primarily involves sedentary work with occasional lifting of up to 5 lbs. Must be capable of operating standard office equipment and performing computer work for extended periods.

Working Conditions
Work is typically performed indoors in a climate-controlled environment with minimal noise. The position requires 50% travel and attendance at in-office meetings as necessary.

Mental and Emotional Requirements
Ability to work independently or as part of a team, manage multiple priorities, and maintain composure under pressure is essential. Strong communication skills are necessary for delivering information clearly and effectively.
