Piping Engineering & Analysis Overview

The Piping Engineering & Analysis sector is responsible for conducting assessments of piping systems in compliance with ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, ASME B31.1, ASME B31.7, and other relevant standards tailored to the specific evaluation at hand. This discipline also encompasses several specialized topics.

  • Vibration Assessment: Monitoring and analyzing vibrations to assess operational impacts related to plant modifications and operational events, while offering solutions for vibration prevention and mitigation.
  • Hydraulic Transient Evaluation: Assessing piping systems for thermal stratification effects, operability evaluations, and the qualification of piping for hydrodynamic loads.
  • Pipe Integrity Assessments: Conducting evaluations for pipe rupture, analyzing wall thinning due to flow accelerated corrosion (FAC) or microbiologically induced corrosion (MIC), and assessing pipe flaws.

Role-Specific Responsibilities

This position involves providing technical assistance on projects through a variety of engineering tasks, including the preparation of calculations, specifications, and component designs. The role requires engagement in resolving straightforward design challenges, with most tasks performed under limited supervision.

As a member of the mid-level engineering team, responsibilities include:

  • Conducting complex calculations and reviewing simpler ones.
  • Evaluating basic system and structural designs.
  • Assisting in the preparation of documented design inputs for drawing production (e.g., P&IDs and Master Diagrams).
  • Drafting specifications for a majority of balance of plant equipment.
  • Preparing bid evaluations for individual components and calculations to support economic assessments.
  • Generating concise reports and studies.
  • Contributing to project budgets, schedules, and work plans while monitoring personal work to ensure completion within budget and timelines.
  • Utilizing effective communication skills to relay information to project team members and management, ensuring clarity in all deliverables.
  • Engaging with vendors through well-structured specifications.
  • Applying established standards and processes to assigned project tasks.
  • Completing work assignments within the designated schedule.
  • Potentially mentoring junior engineers.

Work Arrangement

This position operates on a hybrid work schedule, requiring in-office attendance three days per week.

Qualifications

We do not provide sponsorship for work authorization in the U.S. for this role.

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Mechanics, Aerospace, or Structural/Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program, focusing on solid mechanics, structural analysis, theory of elasticity, metallurgy, and finite element analysis.
  • A minimum of three years of relevant experience.
  • Familiarity with ASME B31.1 and ASME B&PV Section III piping codes.
  • Understanding of the design, selection, and application of pipe support elements.
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license.
  • Experience with commercially available piping products and their applications.
  • Ability to navigate 3D CAD models.
  • Familiarity with AutoPIPE or PIPESTRESS software.
  • Knowledge of gas dynamics and hydraulic transients.
  • Understanding of pipe condition assessment.
