Piping Engineering & Analysis Overview
The Piping Engineering & Analysis sector conducts assessments for piping systems in compliance with ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, ASME B31.1, ASME B31.7, and other relevant standards pertinent to the specific evaluations being undertaken. This discipline also encompasses various specialized topics.
- Vibration assessment and analysis to scrutinize system operational vibrations linked to plant modifications and operational events, providing solutions and designs for vibration prevention and mitigation.
- Analysis of hydraulic transients, evaluation of piping systems for thermal stratification impacts, operability assessments, and qualification of piping for hydrodynamic forces.
- Pipe failure assessments, evaluation of pipe wall degradation due to flow accelerated corrosion (FAC) or microbiologically induced corrosion (MIC), and pipe defect evaluations.
Position-Specific Responsibilities
This role entails delivering senior-level technical assistance by executing a range of engineering tasks, including the preparation and review of intricate calculations and designs. On a task-by-task basis, the incumbent is accountable for the preparation and execution of engineering designs that align with project requirements. Oversight of assigned personnel is also a key responsibility to ensure compliance with established standards.
Senior-level personnel contribute to engineering design projects with the following duties:
- Formulates and evaluates complex calculations.
- Reviews basic system/structural designs and develops advanced system designs.
- Produces documented design inputs for drawing production (e.g., P&IDs and Master Diagrams). Reviews design inputs for basic systems/structures. Conducts engineering reviews of drawings.
- Generates and assesses equipment specifications. Develops material specifications.
- Conducts bid evaluations for systems and larger components. Prepares calculations to support economic assessments. Gathers data from suppliers.
- Produces and evaluates straightforward reports/studies.
- Develops project budgets, schedules, and work plans for single-discipline/simple-scope projects. Monitors personal work to ensure completion within budget and timeline.
- Provides single-discipline input for straightforward proposals.
- Utilizes effective written and verbal communication skills to relay information to project team members and management. Presents technical information clearly and concisely in all deliverables.
- Prepares reports and deliverables that are easily understood and meet client expectations. Communicates effectively in meetings with clients and summarizes meeting notes promptly and clearly.
Work Arrangement
This position operates on a hybrid work schedule, necessitating in-office attendance three days a week.
Qualifications

Essential Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Mechanics, Aerospace, or Structural/Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program, with a focus on solid mechanics, structural analysis, theory of elasticity, metallurgy, and finite element analysis.
- A minimum of five years of relevant experience.
- Proficient knowledge of ASME B31.1 and ASME B&PV Section III piping codes.
- Familiarity with the design, selection, and application of pipe support systems.
- Working knowledge of commercially available piping products and their applications.
- Strong written and verbal communication capabilities.
Valued but Not Required Skills and Experience:
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) license.
- Familiarity with commercially available piping products and their applications.
- Ability to navigate a 3D CAD model.
- Experience with AutoPIPE or PIPESTRESS software.
- Understanding of gas dynamics and hydraulic transients.
- Knowledge of pipe condition assessment.
- Experience with ANSYS Workbench and Mechanical ADP.
