Internship Summary:

The Youth Guidance Direct Service Internship is tailored to fulfill academic requirements for internships, practicums, or capstone projects that involve hands-on learning under supervision and direct interaction with clients. Our internship program aligns with the standards of most Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, and related academic disciplines. Interns will engage in weekly supervision sessions and monthly team meetings, with opportunities to lead individual and group counseling sessions based on their skill levels. Internships primarily take place in educational settings but may also include virtual or community-based service delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Observe, assist, or lead group and individual counseling sessions in educational environments (involvement level varies based on intern proficiency).
  • Conduct evaluations for youth participating in Youth Guidance programs.
  • Provide family support and crisis intervention as necessary.
  • Complete weekly documentation and administrative tasks as required.
  • Engage in staff development and mandatory training sessions.
  • Participate in organizational committees (participation may be required or optional based on department and internship role).
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor's or master's degree program.
  • Seeking academic credit through an internship.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Exhibits strong written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Demonstrates capacity for teamwork and independent work.
  • Shows cultural awareness, understanding the impact of systemic issues on marginalized groups.
  • Displays creativity in engaging with youth.
  • Maintains a collaborative approach to client care.
  • Fluency in both Spanish and English is highly desirable.

Physical Requirements:

Work Environment:

This position is based in a professional office and educational settings. All employees must be fully vaccinated or have an approved exemption for medical or religious reasons. Occasional travel may be required.
