Role Reports To: Associate Director, Hair and Scalp Innovation

Location: Skillman, NJ

Travel Requirement: 10%

Compensation Range:
$120,000 - $160,000

Key Responsibilities


The ideal candidate will spearhead regional and global initiatives for innovative Hair and Scalp products, taking charge of product formulation development by integrating consumer insights from various sources.

The Senior Research Scientist will hold comprehensive responsibility for product development, including the implementation of new forms and technologies, as well as managing the product lifecycle for projects encompassing hair cleansing, treatments, and styling solutions.

Exceptional scientific expertise and communication skills, coupled with the ability to navigate complexity, are essential for success in this role.

The candidate will provide both strategic and operational expertise in executing regional and global projects, including the analysis of new consumer insights to establish a strategic innovation pipeline.

Specific Duties Include:

  • Demonstrating strong scientific and communication skills while effectively managing complex projects.

    The candidate will offer strategic and operational guidance in executing regional and global initiatives, leveraging new consumer insights to build a robust innovation pipeline.

Additionally, responsibilities will encompass mentoring junior scientists.

  • The Senior Research Scientist will be accountable for designing and executing both global and regional projects aligned with the overarching strategy, which involves defining project scope, adhering to budgetary constraints, and implementing problem-solving strategies with rigor and deep organizational knowledge. The individual will ensure that global projects are tailored to meet regional requirements, following the Global Product Development Operating Model, while providing hands-on leadership throughout the product development and deployment process, and leading cross-functional technical and project teams.
  • They will act as a technical subject matter expert in hair and scalp technologies and formulation development, contributing to the broader product development community. The candidate will operate independently of technical direction, executing projects and analyses with direct involvement.
Effective management of routine processes, risk-taking, and decision-making are critical components of this role, providing guidance and solutions to technical challenges.

  • The Senior Research Scientist will be responsible for drafting and executing peer-reviewed manuscripts, technical reports, and patent applications. The ability to manage routine processes and complexity, along with sound decision-making, is vital for providing guidance and solutions to technical challenges.
Qualifications We Seek

Essential Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree is required (preferably in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Pharmacy, or Cosmetic Chemistry/Science), with a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience (academic or industry).
  • Fluent written and verbal communication skills in English are required.
  • This position is based in Skillman, NJ, with up to 10% domestic or international travel expected.
Preferred Qualifications

  • A PhD degree is preferred, along with a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience (academic or industry).
  • Experience in hair care formulations is highly desirable.
