Position Title: Technical Buyer

Role Overview:

The Technical Buyer is responsible for sourcing a network of reliable suppliers to secure optimal pricing and lead times for external services, including but not limited to heat treatment, chemical processing, and finishing.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with Quality Assurance to qualify new vendors and ensure they are added to the Approved Vendors List.
  • Expedite vendor quotes (VQ) to maintain efficiency in procurement processes.
  • Work closely with the Machine Shop team to identify cost drivers associated with various jobs, such as non-recurring engineering, tooling, fixturing, machine time, labor time, and outside processing.
  • Prepare and finalize cost sheets with precision and promptness for review by Sales and Management prior to customer deadlines.
  • Review new Requests for Quotations (RFQs) with the technical team to assess capability.
  • Analyze and question historical production data when estimating costs for recurring jobs.
  • Engage in special projects as assigned by the Machine Shop team.
  • Effectively manage the open quote log and communicate status updates to relevant departments.
  • Create purchase orders for miscellaneous shop supplies, tooling, and chemicals as necessary.
  • Execute all tasks in accordance with company Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).

Essential Skills:

  • Proficient in Mechanical Drawing Interpretation
  • Experienced in Machine Operation

Work Environment:

This role is performed in a fully on-site setting, combining office duties with hands-on interaction on the machine shop floor.
