Key Responsibilities
  • Lead archaeological field operations in accordance with BGE and stakeholder standards.
  • Provide oversight and direction for field-based decisions regarding crew safety, conflict resolution, and problem-solving.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers to support research design and project execution.
  • Plan project acquisition, including proposal writing, budgeting, scoping, and scheduling tasks.
  • Monitor field progress, offering feedback on time constraints and staffing needs, and adjust field techniques as necessary.
  • Manage logistics, staffing, and coordination of field efforts, including GPS setup, field maps, crew scheduling, and vehicle maintenance.
  • Effectively coordinate with Field Directors, Crew Chiefs, and crew members to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal historic preservation guidelines.
  • Conduct navigation using compass and tape, and interpret USGS topographic maps and aerial imagery.
  • Instruct Field Directors on proper field inventory methods and provide guidance for specific tasks.
  • Complete and submit necessary field documentation, including safety forms, daily journals, and site forms.
  • Review and conduct quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) of all field data submitted by team members.
Qualifications
  • Master's degree in anthropology, archaeology, or a closely related field, along with current RPA registration.
  • A minimum of 5 years of documented field experience in archaeology, including 2 years in a supervisory role.
  • Strong understanding of regulatory compliance requirements in Cultural Resource Management (CRM), including Section 106 of the NRHP, NEPA, ARPA, and NAGPRA.
  • Preferred knowledge of ArcGIS or similar GIS platforms.
  • Proficiency in Trimble GPS and Total Station data collection is required.
  • Ability to perform QA/QC on technical reports and client communications.
  • Experience in communicating with regulatory agencies, clients, and landowners.
  • Familiarity with artifact analysis and laboratory procedures is highly preferred.
  • Willingness to travel and conduct fieldwork for extended periods.
  • Ability to navigate rugged terrain and perform fieldwork efficiently.
