Job Overview

Position Summary
The Director of Channel Strategy and Implementation plays a pivotal role within the IFT Marketing & Communications team, responsible for crafting strategic initiatives, establishing direction, and overseeing all facets of audience comprehension and engagement that shape the approach to external digital communication platforms. This position spearheads collaborative efforts across various functions within IFT to enhance and engage diverse audiences.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work closely with stakeholders at all levels within IFT, serving as a leader in the Marketing & Communications team to share insights and ensure cohesive content across digital platforms and publications.
  • Direct the development, coordination, and execution of strategies for all IFT digital Marketing & Communication channels, including websites, social media, podcasts, and email communications.
  • Lead a team responsible for creating compelling content, while also independently identifying and delivering timely information to IFT audiences through various media.
  • Establish a comprehensive marketing data management program, acting as the central resource for sharing information and utilizing data to inform decision-making based on audience needs.
  • Align marketing insights and measurement approaches with content strategies to ensure consistent performance evaluation and ongoing refinement based on findings.
  • Take primary responsibility for managing digital channel strategies, collaborating with partners to define content types and establish guidelines for each channel.
  • Oversee the strategy and execution of IFT's organic and paid social media initiatives to enhance visibility, encourage engagement, and strengthen relationships with professionals in food science and innovation.
  • Collaborate with Marketing & Communication team members to educate staff on the strategic use of IFT channels and how their contributions align with overall goals.
  • Provide regular performance reports and insights to senior leadership regarding channel effectiveness and return on investment.
  • Develop and enhance existing Marketing & Communication channels to better engage audiences and improve team efficiencies.
  • Implement tools and processes to ensure consistency and best practices across IFT channels and specific groups.
  • Introduce innovative communication strategies by staying informed about new tools and technologies, and working closely with IT to adopt emerging technologies that enhance the customer experience.
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to create meaningful content that resonates with IFT customers and members, ensuring optimal placement across channels.
  • Advise Marketing & Communications peers and senior leaders on effective digital channel utilization to achieve business objectives.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, technological advancements, and consumer behavior to inform strategies.
  • Monitor and assess other channels serving similar audiences to inform planning and engagement strategies.
  • Oversee the development of channel engagement surveys, analyzing results to guide strategic planning.
  • Manage relationships with contractors and vendors, including contract negotiations and performance oversight.
  • Foster strong relationships with internal departments and lead cross-departmental initiatives to develop channels that attract and retain members globally.
  • Ensure compliance with industry regulations and best practices, maintaining adherence to company policies.
  • Responsible for team management, including hiring, training, and performance evaluation.
  • Facilitate cross-training for team members on critical processes and develop training programs as necessary.
  • Promote a productive and positive work environment through effective management practices.

Management Duties

  • Oversee a team of 2-3 members focused on audience insights and channel strategy.

Travel Requirements

  • Occasional domestic and international travel may be required, including attendance at evening, weekend, and overnight meetings.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in public relations, Marketing, Communications, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of progressive experience in communications, with a focus on content and channel strategy, social media management, and data analysis.
  • Understanding of current and emerging digital privacy regulations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Extensive experience in managing integrated channel strategies, including website and digital platform management.
  • Professional background in the health, science, or food industries is highly desirable.
