Position Overview

The selected candidate will take on the role of an Engineering Technician, engaging in a variety of substantive and intricate assignments within the engineering and architectural sectors.

Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Developing comprehensive layouts, engineering designs, geological illustrations, and project cost assessments for initiatives such as dams, power generation facilities, pumping stations, transportation systems, building projects, recreational sites, and irrigation frameworks.
  • Conducting engineering calculations and verifying computations executed by division engineers by gathering and analyzing quantities from finalized drawings, lists, and extracting engineering data from various records, specifications, and tabulations.
  • Employing Autodesk Data Platform (ADP) and Computer Aided Design and Drafting (CADD) systems to create methodologies for executing engineering-related tasks, including engineering drawings.
  • Collaborating and maintaining relationships with senior technicians, computer specialists, engineers, geologists, and other regional and area office personnel to fulfill responsibilities.

Duty Location: Negotiable, with limitations to specific areas.

Federal Acquisition Certification (FAC) COR or AOTR may be necessary as outlined in Department and/or Bureau policies.
Occasional travel may be required for meetings, conferences, training, or site visits.
There may be instances requiring work outside of regular hours with supervisor approval.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: To be considered for this position, candidates must demonstrate the required specialized experience and/or education relevant to the grade level:

For GS-09 Level: Candidates must possess one full year of specialized experience comparable to the GS-08 grade level in the Federal service, performing at least three of the following tasks: 1) creating layouts for electrical, civil, and mechanical engineering design drawings; 2) preparing geological layouts; 3) utilizing topographic data for survey drawings; 4) performing engineering calculations and verifying computations; and/or 5) employing Autodesk Data Platform (ADP) and CADD systems for engineering tasks.
OR
Education: Completion of at least two full years (36 semester/54 quarter hours) of graduate-level education or a master's degree directly related to the position (e.g., Engineering, Construction Management, Surveying). Transcripts must be included.
OR
Combination: A combination of graduate-level education and experience as described above. Education must be obtained from an accredited institution.

For GS-10 Level: Candidates must have one year of specialized experience comparable to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service, performing at least four of the following tasks: 1) utilizing ADP and CADD systems for engineering tasks; 2) evaluating alternative engineering plans; 3) extracting engineering data from records; 4) maintaining drawing and document databases; and/or 5) receiving guidance from engineers and senior technicians for non-standard practices.

For GS-11 Level: Candidates must have one year of specialized experience comparable to the GS-10 grade level in the Federal service, performing the following tasks: 1) developing and applying advanced methods using PCs, CADD, GIS, and other engineering software; 2) collaborating with senior technicians and specialists; 3) utilizing ADP and CADD systems for engineering tasks; 4) preparing narrative explanations of methodologies; and 5) advising engineers on effective project plans.

All qualifications and eligibility requirements must be met by the closing date of the announcement.

Education Requirements: There is no substitution of education for experience at the GS-10 and GS-11 grade levels. To qualify based on education, candidates must submit a legible copy of transcripts that include their name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and GPA or class ranking.
