Role Overview

The selected candidate will function as an Engineering Technician, engaging in a variety of intricate and significant tasks within the realms of engineering and architecture.

Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Developing comprehensive layouts, engineering designs, geological illustrations, and project cost assessments for initiatives such as water management systems, energy facilities, transportation infrastructure, building projects, recreational spaces, and irrigation networks.
  • Conducting engineering calculations and verifying computations executed by division engineers by gathering and analyzing quantities from finalized drawings, lists, and extracting engineering information from records, specifications, and drawings.
  • Employing Autodesk Data Platform (ADP) and Computer Aided Design and Drafting (CADD) systems to formulate strategies for executing engineering-related tasks such as creating engineering drawings.
  • Collaborating and maintaining communication with senior technicians, IT specialists, engineers, geologists, and other staff members to fulfill responsibilities effectively.

Duty Location
The duty location is negotiable, with options available within specified regions.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: To be considered for this position, candidates must demonstrate the required specialized experience and/or education for the respective grade level:

For the GS-09 Level: Candidates must possess one full year of specialized experience comparable to the GS-08 grade level in the Federal service, performing at least three (3) of the following tasks: 1) preparing layouts for electrical, civil, and mechanical engineering designs; 2) preparing geological layouts; 3) utilizing topographic data for survey drawings; 4) conducting engineering calculations and verifying computations; and/or 5) using Autodesk Data Platform (ADP) and CADD systems for engineering tasks.
OR
Education: Completion of at least two full years (36 semester/54 quarter hours) of graduate-level education or a master's degree directly related to the position (e.g., Engineering, Construction Management, or Surveying). Transcripts must be included.
OR
Combination: A combination of graduate-level education and experience as described above, totaling at least 100 percent to qualify.

For the GS-10 Level: Candidates must have one full year of specialized experience comparable to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service, performing at least four (4) of the following tasks: 1) utilizing ADP and CADD systems for engineering tasks; 2) evaluating alternative engineering plans; 3) extracting engineering data from various sources; 4) maintaining drawing and document databases; and/or 5) receiving guidance from engineers and senior technicians for significant deviations from standard practices.

For the GS-11 Level: Candidates must have one full year of specialized experience comparable to the GS-10 grade level in the Federal service, performing the following tasks: 1) developing and applying advanced methods using PCs, CADD, GIS, and specialized engineering software; 2) collaborating with senior technicians and specialists; 3) utilizing ADP and CADD systems for engineering tasks; 4) preparing detailed narratives explaining methodologies; and 5) making recommendations to engineers on effective project plans.

All candidates must meet qualifications and eligibility requirements by the specified closing date.

Education

There is no substitution of education for experience at the GS-10 and GS-11 grade levels.
To qualify based on education, candidates must submit a legible copy of transcripts showing their name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and GPA or class ranking. Transcripts do not need to be official, but official transcripts must be provided if selected for the position.
If using foreign education to meet qualification requirements, candidates must show that their education credentials have been evaluated by a recognized organization and deemed equivalent to U.S. education standards.
