Position Overview

Sayres & Associates, a prominent provider of defense support services to the Department of Defense, is currently in search of a skilled Naval Engineering Specialist possessing a SECRET clearance, verifiable in DISS.

The Naval Engineering Specialist will play a crucial role in supporting the Ship Design Management team, offering subject matter expertise for technical and engineering initiatives related to various hull types (e.g., T-AGOS, T-AO, T-ATS, NGLS, T-ARC, Service Craft).

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver engineering and technical assistance for concept studies, feasibility assessments, preliminary design efforts, contract design tasks, detailed design and construction activities, independent design evaluations, in-service ship design and engineering operations, onboard installation support, and specialized studies concerning ships, boats, craft, ship systems, and shipboard equipment.
  • Conduct thorough reviews and analyses of ship design deliverables from industry partners, including specifications, drawings, and calculations. On behalf of the Navy client, formulate corrective design feedback and modifications to ensure compliance with government specifications and requirements.
  • Oversee and mentor junior engineers within the Ship Design Management team.
  • Devise technical solutions to engineering challenges encountered during the production of Navy vessels.
  • Provide technical assessments and evaluations related to Hull, Mechanical, and Electrical (HM&E) systems in accordance with specifications, advising clients on equipment and system design considerations.

Qualifications & Clearance Requirements

Education, Experience, Skills, and Clearance Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering with a minimum of eight (8) years of experience in Navy shipbuilding/design, or 14 years of ship design experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and customer relationship skills.
  • Outstanding organizational abilities.
  • Capability to thrive in a collaborative team environment.
  • Active Secret security clearance verifiable in JPAS or the ability to secure an interim Secret clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Background in military, maritime, or marine engineering.
  • Familiarity with automated engineering software (e.g., AutoCAD, AdobePro).
  • Strong experience in Marine Engineering.
  • Understanding of contract documentation, experience interpreting contract data, and knowledge of NAVSEA ship specification requirements and processes.
