Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Licensed Practice Nurse 3 to join our team at the State of Louisiana. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will be responsible for providing high-quality nursing care to patients in stable conditions and predictable situations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide person-centered nursing care to patients in accordance with the Professional Nurse Practice Act.
  • Function independently as the Clinic Nurse, managing the nursing care of patients to include vital signs, initial, annual, and as needed nursing evaluations and laboratory work, education, and collaboration with the inter-professional team.
  • Assist prescribers with prescriptions, including appropriate communication with pharmacies as needed.
  • Supervise and direct the work performed by lower-level Practical Nurses.
  • Administer medication under physician authorization, utilizing the six Rights of Medication Administration.
  • Assess and document patient clinical responses to medication, including the documentation of significant conditions and reactions.
  • Observe, assess, and document patient biopsychosocial condition and report changes to the RN/Nurse Practitioner/Physician.
  • Provide individual health teaching to patients every visit.
  • Schedule appointments with primary care physicians. Conduct and ensure that appointments for annual physical examinations and return injection appointments are made.
  • Maintain a safe and sanitary work environment.
  • Document care provided and/or other services in the Electronic Health Record. Maintain confidentiality and HIPAA compliance in all matters related to patients and staff.
  • Serve as a resource and support to other members of the State of Louisiana's Nursing, inter-professional team, and staff to assist with issues related to the care, treatment, and management of patients.
Performance Improvement and Quality Monitoring
  • Work with Nursing Leadership to track identified quality indicators.
  • Collaborate with Nursing Leadership and the Quality Team (as needed) to provide clinical input related to ongoing development and implementation of complete and accurate data gathering processes.
  • Meet assigned Nursing deadlines.
  • Ensure compliance with all agency policies and procedures.
  • Attend and actively participate in monthly Nursing Staff Meetings.
Professional Development
  • Maintain Professional Licensure and Certifications.
  • Complete all mandatory and continuing education offerings according to established timelines.
  • Other duties as assigned.
