Position Summary

The AEP Coordinator plays a vital role in supporting the daily operations of after-school programs and activities for K-8 students. This position involves planning, designing, and overseeing the AEP curriculum and activities, which include athletics and enrichment classes. The Coordinator will assist the AEP Director and Assistant Director with administrative tasks and will be instrumental in training and leading part-time AEP staff members.

This role also encompasses support for our Summer Camp program, which includes curriculum development, staff assistance, and leading camp activities during the summer months.

While the primary responsibilities are linked to after-school and summer programs, the AEP Coordinator is also a leader responsible for fostering connections and bridging the culture of the school day to create a safe, inclusive, and enriching environment for students outside of their classrooms.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and lead after-school curriculum and enrichment activities, including general after-school programs, athletics, evening events, half-day activities, full-day camps, and summer camps.
  • Research community-based after-school enrichment activities to propose for the program.
  • Monitor and support staff in supervising students in various areas of the school.
  • Ensure the daily execution of the program, particularly during peak times, including student sign-ins and class assignments.
  • Maintain student behavior consistent with school expectations, utilizing restorative justice practices as necessary.
  • Facilitate conflict resolution among students.
  • Lead daily community snack time discussions.
  • Set up and clean classroom and play areas daily.
  • Oversee summer camp activities.
  • Assist in developing training for part-time AEP and summer staff.
  • Communicate effectively with parents, families, and other AEP staff members.
  • Maintain inventory of AEP snacks and supplies.
  • Support school day activities, including lunch, recess, and classroom duties.
  • Maintain consistent and punctual attendance.
  • Assist with administrative tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Classroom Management and Culture

  • Establish and uphold classroom norms and expectations to create a positive and safe learning environment.
  • Foster a culture of support and accountability regarding student behavior, providing clear expectations and opportunities for reflection.
  • Adapt teaching methods and materials to accommodate diverse student interests and learning styles.

Parent/Guardian Engagement

  • Build professional relationships with families, providing timely feedback on student progress.
  • Maintain open communication with parents/guardians through various channels.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with colleagues to fulfill the School's Mission and Values.
  • Participate actively in all meetings and faculty workdays.
  • Attend school assemblies and events, including program events and student-led initiatives.
  • Engage in school committees and fulfill assigned responsibilities.
  • Perform designated duties as assigned by the Lower School Head.
  • Complete all required administrative tasks accurately and promptly.
  • Remain on campus during work hours and sign out only with prior permission.
  • Utilize HR platforms for time-off requests, avoiding scheduling conflicts with important school events.
  • Undertake other duties as requested by management.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Experience in a lower school teaching environment.
  • Management experience.
  • Experience working with diverse student populations and families.
  • Familiarity with Google Suite and educational technology platforms.
  • Commitment to professional growth and development.
  • Strong work ethic, collaborative skills, and a sense of humor.

Physical Requirements

  • 60% indoors, 40% outdoors.
  • Ability to stand for prolonged periods.
  • Ability to navigate classroom and playground environments.
  • Occasional lifting of more than 25 lbs.
