SUMMARY

This role is accountable for overseeing and managing the Safety initiatives of the organization in alignment with federal and local regulations; aims to avert, reduce, and rectify accidents and injuries while addressing safety concerns impacting the corporation.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant discipline along with industry-recognized certifications such as CSP (Certified Safety Professional), CHST (Certified Health & Safety Technician), or CIH (Certified Industrial Hygienist) are highly preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years of safety experience in the Heavy Construction sector.
  • Comprehensive understanding of applicable governmental regulations, safety compliance, and industrial hygiene practices.
  • Strong business insight, analytical capabilities, and strategic thinking skills.
  • Familiarity with organizational behavior, effective communication skills, and the ability to positively influence and collaborate within a team.
  • Knowledge of electrical safety practices.
  • Self-motivated and proactive.
  • OSHA Outreach Trainer for the Construction Industry, CHST, and/or Certified Safety Professional certification.
  • Team-oriented and driven professional.
  • Familiarity with ISO 45001 & 14001 standards.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Develop, execute, and oversee all safety, accident prevention, and fire safety programs for significant construction projects.
  • Lead and manage the efforts of other Safety Managers and team members.
  • Assess needs and establish specifications for protective safety equipment and materials.
  • Conduct surveillance, inspections, and control of hazardous working conditions or unsafe employee behaviors.
  • Ensure all necessary records and reports are complete, accurate, and submitted according to established protocols.
  • Maintain a Safety and Health Program that meets or exceeds corporate standards.
  • Formulate, communicate, enforce, and identify areas for enhancement in the Project Safety Program.
  • Coordinate, schedule, and facilitate all Pre-Construction Safety Planning Meetings with Subcontractors, serving as a resource for field operations to ensure compliance with federal (OSHA) and state/local safety regulations.
  • Manage all administrative tasks related to project-specific safety documentation, including OSHA record keeping and management reports.
  • Review and authorize all Subcontractors' Site-Specific Safety Programs and Job Hazard Analyses prior to mobilization.
  • Conduct regular site assessments, follow up, and track corrections to identified deficiencies.
  • Participate in superintendent meetings and oversee Tool Box Talks/Discussions to ensure proper documentation and quality assurance.
  • Utilize root cause analysis and accident investigation techniques in the event of job site incidents, including gathering safety and health standard incident reporting forms and documentation in collaboration with local and Risk Management.
  • Enforce documentation on the proper training of employees related to their job functions.
  • Capable of delivering in-house training on various health and safety topics.
  • Assist with OSHA inspections, compliance reviews, insurance provider audits, and other federal, state, or local agency inquiries.
  • Collaborate with senior management, line management, and project teams to ensure organizational SH&E compliance.
  • Implement SH&E programs and conduct training sessions.
  • Manage Risk/Claims effectively.
