Position Overview:

We are seeking a full-time Staff Attorney to join our team. The Staff Attorney will operate under the guidance of a manager to deliver essential self-help services for non-detained adults and families. The primary responsibilities include:

  • Providing legal orientations related to removal proceedings and available legal relief.
  • Conducting intake and follow-up services.
  • Facilitating self-help workshops.
  • Making referrals for pro bono assistance or social services.
  • Offering Friend of Court services during hearings.
  • Mentoring and supervising interns and volunteers.
  • Maintaining accurate participant files.
  • Connecting individuals with social services.
  • Developing and refining legal program materials and presentation methods.
  • Enhancing access to legal counsel through pro bono referrals.

Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctorate degree.
  • Active bar admission or pending bar results (California state bar preferred, but not mandatory).
  • Experience in a legal environment, particularly in immigration or public interest law, is advantageous.
  • Strong skills in organization, case management, legal research, and writing.
  • Proficiency in Spanish is required and will be assessed during the interview process.
  • Ability to take initiative and work effectively under pressure.
  • Collaborative mindset with a strong commitment to teamwork.
  • A genuine passion for advocating for social justice for immigrants and vulnerable communities.
