Key Responsibilities:
We are seeking a full-time Senior Immigration Attorney to join our Advocacy Program, focusing on supporting both detained and non-detained immigrants in removal proceedings. The Senior Attorney will primarily operate under the National Qualified Representative Program (NQRP) as established by the Franco-Gonzales v. Holder class action. This role involves serving as a Qualified Representative for individuals with mental disabilities who are confronting deportation and are unable to advocate for themselves in legal settings.
The Senior Attorney will engage in a diverse range of cases under the guidance of the Managing Attorney for NQRP. Responsibilities will include:
- Litigating complex and significant cases in immigration court, encompassing matters such as asylum claims, cancellation of removal, innovative arguments against deportability, and issues related to "crimmigration."
- Potential travel may be necessary, including out-of-state assignments.
Qualifications:
- Juris Doctorate degree.
- Active bar admission (California state bar preferred, but not mandatory).
- Experience in legal environments (preferably in immigration or public interest law).
- Strong skills in organization, case management, legal research, and writing.
- Ability to take initiative and perform well under pressure.
- Team-oriented mindset with a collaborative attitude.
- Commitment to social justice for immigrants and marginalized communities.
- Proficiency in a second language, such as Spanish.
- Experience working with vulnerable populations, including children, families, or individuals with mental health challenges.
- Background in community outreach and public speaking.
This position offers a hybrid work environment.
