For over five decades, CFJ has mobilized the legal community in Los Angeles to provide essential legal services to those in need, including survivors of domestic violence, individuals living with HIV/AIDS, immigrants, and military veterans.
Position Summary:
CFJ is currently seeking a skilled attorney to join its Immigration Legal Assistance Project (ILAP). This clinic has been a vital resource for immigrant families in Los Angeles, offering a range of legal services including immigration information, advocacy with USCIS, and assistance with form preparation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the daily functions of the clinic, including the formulation and execution of policies and programs.
- Draft and review legal documents, addressing procedural inquiries and ensuring quality control of materials prepared by volunteers and staff.
- Lead the training and supervision of volunteers, developing comprehensive training resources.
- Create informative materials aimed at assisting self-represented applicants.
- Conduct legal research and analyze relevant legislation, case law, and statutes.
- Engage in various committees and task forces to advocate for enhanced access to justice within the immigration sector.
Qualifications:
- J.D. from an ABA accredited law school.
- Active membership in good standing with the California Bar.
- Two to three years of experience in immigration law.
- Proven leadership, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong interpersonal skills, demonstrating patience and empathy towards individuals in distress.
- Fluency in both English and Spanish, with excellent oral and written communication skills.
Compensation:
This position is exempt and offers a competitive salary range, along with a comprehensive benefits package. All roles at CFJ are contingent upon ongoing funding.
