Position Summary: The Principal Technical Engineer collaborates with commercial leadership, research and development, and operations to identify enhancements and expansions to current product lines. This role provides essential process technology support to manufacturing plants, overseeing the capital work process, which includes process engineering design, project development, construction, and commissioning, as well as the creation of new products and processes to ensure business growth.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop expertise in process chemistry, operational philosophy, and design basis for production assets.
  • Collaborate with teams to identify and implement long-term process improvements aimed at enhancing safety, yield, production rates, and overall performance.
  • Identify and execute enhancements to basic control schemes and advanced process control strategies.
  • Conduct process economics, feasibility studies, and project justification analyses.
  • Support plant operations in key initiatives focused on growth, cost reduction, or operational stability.
  • Ensure quality assurance for engineering calculations, process simulations, and technical drawings.
  • Contribute to the strategic and long-term planning for assigned areas, integrating project planning into annual budgeting and strategic processes.
  • Engage with Supply Chain, Quality Control, DCS, and commercial leadership to promote continuous improvement and meet customer needs effectively.
  • Lead Process Hazard Analysis/HAZOP activities.
  • Assist capital project engineers throughout detailed design, equipment procurement, construction, and startup phases.
  • Promote effective use of OSHA-PSM elements, including Process Hazards Analysis, Management of Change, Pre-Startup Safety Review, and Standard Operating Procedures.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering.
  • 15+ years of experience in process, production, or manufacturing engineering within the chemical, petroleum, or polymer manufacturing sectors.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Six Sigma Black Belt, Lean Manufacturing, or Green Belt certification is advantageous.
  • 5+ years of experience in ammonia and/or nitrogen-based fertilizer production or related manufacturing processes.
  • Proficient in process simulation, design, and operation across various unit operations, including reaction, distillation, refrigeration, and utility systems.
  • Experienced in integrating environmental compliance within process design and operations.
  • Familiar with Front-End-Loading (FEL) and stage gate project development for major capital projects.
  • Skilled in Aspen Plus, PipeFlo, Minitab, Excel, and process modeling software.
  • Knowledgeable in Process Safety Management protocols.
  • Familiarity with DCS systems such as Experion, Foxboro, or DeltaV.
  • Self-motivated and goal-oriented, with a proven track record of success in both independent and collaborative team settings.
  • Strong organizational, planning, and communication skills across all organizational levels.
