About Our Organization

Our firm boasts exceptional proficiency in environmental, social, and governance (ESG) matters, climate resilience, sustainability, and earth sciences. Together, we comprise over 20,000 multidisciplinary experts worldwide, working collaboratively to safeguard and enhance natural environments, establish robust foundations for communities, and advocate for sustainable practices to mitigate climate change.

As a member of our team, you will gain access to an extensive network of resources and numerous opportunities to engage in stimulating projects alongside diverse colleagues from around the globe.

This Role

We are in search of a dynamic Civil Engineering Team Leader to spearhead the expansion of our civil and environmental engineering services. This position will be based in our office and involves providing technical and career advancement guidance to our engineers and CAD designers, as well as managing client relationships and overseeing projects for a wide array of clients in the power, commercial, and municipal sectors.

Your responsibilities will encompass the execution, management, and supervision of various civil engineering initiatives, including solid waste management, coal combustion residuals (CCR) facilities, leachate and wastewater treatment, earthwork design, stormwater management, geotechnical assessments, subsurface investigations, environmental permitting, and other civil engineering tasks related to industrial projects. Effective project delivery will necessitate the preparation of deliverables (reports, permit applications, construction drawings), budget and schedule oversight, billing and project tracking, and collaboration with other offices, clients, subcontractors, and regulatory bodies. You will ensure that all responsibilities are fulfilled with a quality standard that meets or surpasses industry benchmarks for design, safety, and functionality.

Your Contributions
  • Assume a leadership and mentorship role for a skilled team of engineers and CAD designers, offering career development, technical direction, and strategic growth initiatives.
  • Utilize advanced civil and environmental engineering methodologies to identify enhancements for various phases of site development and redevelopment projects, including concept formulation, preliminary and final design, procurement, construction, and operational phases.
  • Conduct professional civil and environmental engineering tasks and perform thorough investigations and assessments of proposed and existing site conditions, resources, facilities, and infrastructure to ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards.
  • Generate construction plans, specifications, and cost estimates; develop safety and phasing plans; and revise infrastructure layout plans in coordination with stakeholders and other disciplines.
  • Oversee the collection, compilation, and analysis of data from physical sites, surveys, blueprints, GIS data, subsurface utility information, hydrologic studies, geotechnical data, and other metrics for project development and execution.
  • Engage in all project phases from inception to completion, managing the design and construction of infrastructure projects, including grading, drainage, solid waste facility design, and remediation efforts.
  • Incorporate cutting-edge technologies, monitoring systems, building materials, modeling techniques, and operational strategies to ensure safety and functionality in civil engineering design.
  • Assist in the engineering review of permit applications, design plans, and specifications to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations and sound engineering practices.
  • Prepare data visualizations such as tables, charts, and reports to effectively communicate complex findings and analyses.
  • Draft comprehensive technical reports and presentations that articulate research, concepts, and recommendations to address engineering and construction challenges.
  • Analyze and interpret data from field investigations, contributing to the development of action plans for risk mitigation.
  • Prepare and implement site Health and Safety Plans (HASPs).
  • Engage with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients in a professional manner.
  • Collaborate with professionals, engineers, planners, and infrastructure authorities on various improvement and development projects.
  • Stay updated on the latest civil and environmental engineering techniques and practices.
  • Perform additional duties as required by business needs.
Qualifications

Essential Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil, Environmental, or Geotechnical Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • 7+ years of relevant experience in engineering and civil design.
  • Virginia Professional Engineer license required (multi-state preferred).
  • Proven ability to lead, manage, mentor, and develop a team of engineers and CAD designers.
  • Strong understanding of civil and environmental engineering principles, practices, and processes.
  • Extensive knowledge of site civil/grading, stormwater management, and solid waste facility design.
  • Experience with land disturbance and stormwater planning, design, and construction management.
  • Familiarity with regulations related to the Virginia Stormwater Management Program (VSMP) and related site planning/permitting.
  • Experience in groundwater and soil remediation, including knowledge of remedial technologies and contaminant assessment.
  • Ability to conduct inspections and investigations on construction and design aspects of facilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for effective interaction with diverse audiences.
  • Strong self-leadership skills with attention to detail and the ability to prioritize tasks in a dynamic environment.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal oversight while providing guidance to junior team members.
  • Proficient in technical writing and various design software applications.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills to apply technical knowledge effectively.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate and direct subcontractors efficiently.
  • Commitment to workplace safety and adherence to company policies.
  • Flexibility to work schedules that meet project-specific requirements.
