Position Overview

This role is a temporary engagement within the finance sector, focusing on various financial responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Oversight and Accounting (25%):

  • Monitor and reconcile financial transactions for both sponsored and non-sponsored accounts to ensure proper fund utilization; initiate corrections as necessary.
  • Maintain clear and informative communication with relevant departments and administrative personnel.

Reporting and Data Analysis (25%):

  • Create regular and customized financial reports for designated departments, sourcing data from multiple channels.
  • Investigate fiscal data for discrepancies and propose actionable solutions.
  • Prepare and present financial trends and projections to inform faculty and department leadership.

Budget Development (20%):

  • Formulate budgets for assigned departments and programs.
  • Ensure adherence to budget timelines and facilitate year-end financial closure.
  • Identify potential revenue shortfalls or expense issues.

Sponsored Projects Support (30%):

  • Assist in the development of proposals for federal and state funding, ensuring compliance with university and agency guidelines.
  • Support staff in strategic budgeting for grant proposals and contracts.
  • Facilitate the review of budgets for compliance with funding requirements.
  • Collaborate with external principal investigators to provide financial oversight and reporting.
  • Ensure all external reporting obligations are fulfilled in coordination with relevant departments.
  • Act as a liaison among various administrative units regarding research projects.
  • Provide comprehensive support for both pre-award and post-award processes.
Qualifications

Essential Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree combined with two years of relevant professional experience, or a total of six years of related education and experience.
  • Proven experience in accounting, budget formulation, or financial management.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.

The UMD Office of Budget & Analysis, part of the Vice Chancellor of Finance & Operations, is responsible for:

  • Providing financial oversight for all academic units and auxiliary services.
  • Coordinating the annual budgeting process.
  • Managing the university's resource allocation.
