Job Overview

Title: Success Coach (Academic Advising)
Position Type: Part-time
Salary: $19.00 per hour

Working Hours: This role involves up to 15 hours per week, primarily between 8 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. All hours will be conducted on-site, with scheduling based on the needs of the Advising Center, employee availability, and other assigned duties.

Position Summary:

The Success Coach will act as a primary advisor for both new and current students. This individual will possess knowledge of initial course placement, registration policies, basic financial aid, and campus resources, serving as the first point of contact for new students. Additionally, the role includes supporting current students through general advising, course selection, and referrals to campus support systems. Specific populations of students may be assigned as necessary.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Provide advising services for new and current students through drop-in sessions, scheduled appointments, and assigned events.
  2. Conduct advising sessions in person, via phone, or online, while maintaining on-site availability for students.
  3. Monitor and support special populations of students as assigned.
  4. Guide students on course selection based on placement test scores.
  5. Assist students in navigating the demands and culture of higher education.
  6. Support events and learning opportunities that help students achieve their academic and career objectives.
  7. Inform students of relevant policies, procedures, and campus resources to maintain good academic standing.
  8. Develop a comprehensive understanding of RACC programs and assist students in aligning their goals with appropriate programs.
  9. Document all student interactions accurately.
  10. Help students identify efficient paths to program completion.
  11. Maintain positive relationships with Program Administrators and faculty to ensure accurate information dissemination.
  12. Refer students to appropriate campus and community resources for assistance.
  13. Perform additional related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:

To be successful in this role, candidates must meet the following qualifications:

Education and Experience:

Required:

  1. Bachelor's Degree.
  2. One year of experience in a counseling or advising role within an educational environment.
  3. Experience working with individuals with diverse academic needs.
  4. Strong communication skills.
  5. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and internet navigation.

Preferred:

  1. Bachelor's degree in counseling, education, or a related field.
  2. Bilingual proficiency (Spanish/English).
  3. Experience in a community college setting.
  4. Understanding of course sequencing and educational planning.
  5. Familiarity with administrative software such as Colleague.
Skills:

Excellent communication and public speaking abilities, along with strong interpersonal skills. Capable of working effectively with diverse groups. Proficient in one-on-one and group presentations, as well as written communication, particularly in report writing and business correspondence.

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to perform basic arithmetic operations and interpret data presented in various formats.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to solve practical problems and interpret a variety of instructions.

Physical Demands:

Regularly required to sit, talk, or hear, with occasional requirements to stand, walk, and lift up to 10 pounds.
