The Behavior Support Specialist is responsible for implementing behavior analytic strategies within educational and home settings.

The Behavior Support Specialist must complete all mandated training and demonstrate proficiency in fundamental intervention techniques based on Applied Behavior Analysis principles, focusing on skill acquisition and the reduction of challenging behaviors, including communication, social, cognitive, and personal independence skills.
Responsibilities include adhering to written behavior support plans and maintaining precise documentation as directed by supervisors.
Additionally, the specialist should be adept at modeling skill acquisition programs and behavior support plan components to parents and educational staff, aiming for the individual's independent skill application and generalization.
Successful completion of safety training is mandatory.
Essential Job FunctionsClinical/Educational
Work under the supervision of licensed professionals responsible for instructional programming and client progress.
Provide support to clients as directed by supervisors, including:
- Accurate implementation of skill acquisition programs as outlined in the ABA program documentation.
- Data collection and graphical representation of all skill acquisition initiatives.
- Assisting in assessments (e.g., VB-MAPP, ABLLS, curriculum-based, social skills, preference assessments).
- Maintaining the program documentation or electronic records, ensuring organization and clarity.
- Implementing strategies to prevent and address maladaptive behaviors while promoting replacement skills.
- Following guidance from behavior consultants and educators.
- Demonstrating behavior analytic teaching techniques for parents and educational staff.
- Facilitating student inclusion in general education activities whenever feasible.
Maintain professional communication with behavior consultants, educational personnel, and family members regarding the effective implementation of skill acquisition programs and behavior support plans.
Exhibit competency in executing prompting hierarchies and other written instructions for skill acquisition and inclusive activities.
Provide behavior management support and implement components of behavior support plans as instructed, including:
- Identifying and executing prevention and intervention strategies.
- Ensuring procedural integrity at all times.
- Accurate data collection for behavioral incidents.
- Providing reliable information to behavior consultants.
Perform non-instructional duties as directed by supervisors, including monitoring various school settings.
Complete ongoing training requirements as specified by the educational facility.
AdministrativeEnsure compliance with regulatory, professional, ethical, and organizational policies in all interactions with colleagues and clients.
Maintain necessary documentation as required by the position and assigned cases, including treatment logs and program records.
Requirements- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (education, psychology, social work, etc.), or
- Bachelor's degree in any field with at least one year of full-time experience involving direct contact with children or adolescents, or
- High school diploma in a related field with three years of experience working with individuals with developmental delays or behavioral challenges.
Familiarity with Applied Behavior Analysis and competency in implementing fundamental procedures as outlined in training protocols is essential.
One year of experience addressing maladaptive behaviors is required.
Completion of Registered Behavior Technician training modules and passing the Registered Behavior Technician test for BACB registration within six months of hire is necessary.
