Position Overview

Job Title: Classroom Support Specialist

FLSA: Non-Exempt

Job Status: Full-time and Part-time; academic year only

Reporting Structure: Reports to Principal

Openings: Multiple positions available

Role Purpose: The Classroom Support Specialist plays a vital role in enhancing the educational experience by providing instructional and administrative assistance to teachers. This position allows educators to focus more on lesson development and student engagement while offering tailored support to students in their learning journey.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver instructional support to students under the supervision of the classroom teacher.
  • Assist in preparing educational materials, managing supplies, and organizing classroom displays.
  • Perform clerical tasks such as organizing folders, managing lunch counts, and distributing and collecting assignments.
  • Accompany students to various locations including restrooms, special classes, and during breaks.
  • Facilitate snack time by preparing and cleaning up the area.
  • Supervise students during transitional periods before and after school, including recess and dismissal.
  • Communicate any parental inquiries regarding student progress to the teacher while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Participate in professional development sessions and meetings as directed by the Principal.
  • Engage respectfully with administrators, faculty, and staff, contributing to a collaborative educational environment.
  • Adhere to all policies established by The Diocese of Allentown and the school.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Principal or classroom teacher.
Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma required.
  • A minimum of 2 years of college coursework or related experience in child development.
Additional Requirements:
  • All employees are expected to uphold the teachings and principles of the Catholic Church.
  • Prior experience working with children is preferred.
  • Understanding of child development and the ability to connect with students effectively.
  • Demonstrated initiative and ability to follow instructional guidance.
  • Capability to manage classroom dynamics with fairness and patience.
  • Strong writing and communication skills to interact effectively with students and educators.
  • Must have clearances from relevant background checks.
Physical Requirements: The role involves regular sitting, walking, standing, bending, and kneeling. The individual must be able to communicate effectively in person and via telephone, and may need to lift items up to 25 pounds.

Work Environment: Typical classroom setting; hours may vary during the academic week. Responsibilities may include participation in school-related events outside regular hours.
