Position Title: Adult Protective Services Specialist

COMPENSATION:

  • Level I H26A - $21.61 per hour
  • Level II H26B - $22.10 per hour

Extensive Travel Required: Must hold a valid driver's license and maintain valid car insurance as an insured driver.

This position is crucial in safeguarding vulnerable adults in Oklahoma. In this capacity, you will be responsible for receiving and investigating claims of abuse, neglect, and exploitation. You will assess individual capacities and provide necessary voluntary or involuntary services, coordinate service plans, prepare legal documentation, attend court proceedings, and offer testimony as required.

Essential Qualifications

Adult Protective Services Specialist, Level I - A bachelor's degree in any discipline is mandatory for this level.

Adult Protective Services Specialist, Level II - Candidates may possess either a master's degree or a bachelor's degree coupled with one year of experience in professional social work.

The complexity of assigned duties will vary based on the level of experience. Compensation will be determined by the applicant's qualifications.

Level I Responsibilities:

  • Engage in entry-level tasks while undergoing training to provide adult protective services to incapacitated adults prior to completing the Adult Protective Services New Worker Training Academy;
  • Collaborate with senior Adult Protective Services Specialists during investigations;
  • Learn and implement self-protection strategies;
  • Conduct follow-up activities for ongoing cases and develop service plans for adults;
  • Prepare legal documents for APS court hearings and attend such hearings, providing testimony as necessary;
  • Participate in case discussions and additional training outside the APS academy;
  • Independently investigate routine APS referrals.

Level II Responsibilities:

  • Receive and document intakes, conducting thorough investigations involving incapacitated adults facing allegations of abuse, neglect, self-neglect, or exploitation;
  • Ensure and apply self-protection strategies;
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments and determine suitable interventions for each case;
  • Make collateral contacts to gather further information regarding the adult's history, assessing the urgency of each situation;
  • Initiate and manage court proceedings for involuntary protective services, acting as a temporary guardian for adults within the parameters set by the court;
  • Engage the adult (when feasible), family members, and other caregivers in crafting a service plan that addresses the adult's needs, and provide follow-up visits as dictated by policy or as necessary.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work within a diverse team and directly with individuals from various backgrounds, including racial, ethnic, socioeconomic, and those with disabilities.
