Job Overview

Compensation:

  • Level I H26A - $21.61 per hour
  • Level II H26B - $22.10 per hour

Travel Requirements: Extensive travel is necessary; a valid driver's license and current car insurance are required.

This position is essential for ensuring the safety of vulnerable adults in Oklahoma. Responsibilities include receiving and investigating reports of abuse, neglect, and exploitation. You will assess the capacity of individuals and provide necessary services, whether voluntary or involuntary, while coordinating service plans, preparing legal documentation, attending court proceedings, and providing testimony as required.

Qualifications

Adult Protective Services Specialist, Level I: A bachelor's degree in any discipline is mandatory for this level.

Adult Protective Services Specialist, Level II: Candidates may possess either a master's degree or a bachelor's degree accompanied by one year of experience in professional social work.

The complexity of assigned duties will depend on the applicant's level of experience. Salary will vary based on qualifications.

Level I Responsibilities:

  • Engage in entry-level work while undergoing training to provide adult protective services to incapacitated adults.
  • Collaborate with higher-level Adult Protective Services Specialists during investigations.
  • Learn and implement self-protection strategies.
  • Conduct follow-up activities for ongoing cases and coordinate service plans.
  • Prepare legal documentation for court hearings and attend these hearings, providing testimony as necessary.
  • Participate in case staffing and additional training outside the APS academy.
  • Conduct independent investigations of routine APS referrals.

Level II Responsibilities:

  • Receive and investigate allegations involving incapacitated adults in situations of abuse, neglect, self-neglect, or exploitation.
  • Ensure and apply self-protection strategies.
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments and determine suitable interventions for each case.
  • Make collateral contacts to gather further information on the adult's history and assess the urgency of each situation.
  • Initiate and manage court proceedings for involuntary protective services, serving as a temporary guardian within court-defined boundaries.
  • Involve the adult (when possible), family, and other caregivers in developing a service plan tailored to the adult's needs, with follow-up visits as specified by policy or as necessary.
  • Ability to collaborate within a diverse team and engage with individuals from various backgrounds, including racial, ethnic, socioeconomic, and those with disabilities.
