Position Summary: The Production Operator III plays a crucial role in the operation of manufacturing equipment for lithium-ion battery materials. Key responsibilities include performing quality assessments, engaging in basic troubleshooting, and conducting equipment maintenance throughout the production cycle, as well as preparing qualified products for shipment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate the process water plant using PLC control units to ensure all pumps and motors function correctly.
  • Monitor instrument readings and perform calibration or basic preventive maintenance as necessary.
  • Assess treatment process performance by interpreting flow meter, pressure gauge, and quality analyzer data.
  • Maintain accurate records of operating checklists, test results, and chemical usage.
  • Manage and maintain a Reverse Osmosis (RO) system, chemical reactors, pumps, and press filters.
  • Conduct inspections of process equipment and troubleshoot operational issues.
  • Document process records including flow, pressure, temperature, and quality metrics.
  • Coordinate repair and minor improvement projects as needed.
  • Assist in the collection and testing of process recycling water samples when required.
  • Participate in safety audits, operational procedure reviews, and quality assurance documentation.
  • Recommend corrective actions and ensure implementation of measures.
  • Support other departments with production and quality-related inquiries.
  • Respond to emergency call-outs to maintain system operations.
  • Ensure compliance with Company Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), policies, and environmental regulations.
  • Communicate effectively with the Shift Leader regarding safety, production, quality, and operational concerns.
  • Engage in pre-shift meetings to contribute to the development of individual work plans.
  • Perform manufacturing tasks related to the recycling and production of battery materials.
  • Continuously monitor processes and conduct visual quality checks to uphold standards.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment.
  • Execute cleaning and routine preventative maintenance on heavy machinery.
  • Utilize personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
  • Operate material handling equipment, including forklifts and basic hand tools.
  • Accurately document data related to processes, equipment, downtime, raw material lot numbers, and yields in accordance with good documentation practices.
  • Ensure cleanliness of equipment and work areas post-use and adhere to preventive maintenance schedules.
  • Assist in maintaining adequate supplies for project completion.
  • Follow all Environmental, Health, and Safety (EH&S) policies and procedures relevant to departmental responsibilities.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Essential Skills and Qualifications:

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to follow operational procedures.
  • Understanding of chemical hazards associated with materials used in the facility.
  • Knowledge of potential interactions between various chemicals and products formed through reactions.
  • Comprehension of chemical and machinery processes, as well as mechanical and electrical equipment.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in basic to intermediate mathematics, including calculations involving addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, and ratios.

Physical Requirements:

  • Commitment to supporting the EHS management process for ISO certification compliance.
  • Participation in all EHS aspects, including hazard reporting and incident documentation.
  • Completion of an Environment, Health, and Safety Orientation program relevant to the work environment.
  • Adherence to the 6S methodology for maintaining organized workspaces.
  • Capability to wear task-specific PPE, including dust masks and safety gear.
  • Ability to meet OSHA standards for manual lifting (up to 50 lbs).
  • Physical capability to stand, walk, and use hands for operating tools and controls.
  • Ability to work in varying weather conditions and temperatures.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in manufacturing or production.
  • Associate degree or higher preferred, or equivalent experience in a related field.
  • Experience in lithium-ion battery manufacturing is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with electrical or PLC programming and troubleshooting is a plus.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications (PowerPoint, Excel, Word) is required.
  • Ability to wear a respirator and other necessary PPE.
  • Willingness to participate in maintenance and operational training programs.
