Job Overview

The Laboratory Technician at the Covington Plant is accountable to the Quality Manager. This role involves ensuring the quality of finished products and fostering continuous enhancements in the plant's manufacturing processes.

Work Schedule: 12-Hour Shifts - No Rotating

Key Responsibilities
  • Adhere to all safety and environmental regulations at the company, state, and federal levels.
  • Conduct laboratory analyses on raw materials and finished product samples.
  • Perform internal audits, including process checks and ISO audits.
  • Execute complex chemical reactions as part of the testing process.
  • Calibrate and maintain analytical instruments according to manufacturer specifications.
  • Handle, mix, and prepare chemicals for analysis and sample preparation.
  • Manage multiple samples and replicates for analysis throughout the shift.
  • Ensure a clean and efficient workspace by maintaining equipment and following the preventative maintenance schedule.
  • Meet the physical demands of the role, including prolonged periods of walking and standing.
Additional Duties
  • Support the EHS management process to achieve ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 certifications, and engage in compliance with established policies and operational controls.
  • Participate in all aspects of EHS, including reporting hazards and incidents without fear of reprisal.
  • Complete an Environment, Health, and Safety Orientation program relevant to the work environment.
  • Implement the 6S methodology to maintain organized workspaces, enhancing both productivity and safety.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Education:
    • Associate Degree in Chemistry, Physics, or Engineering with at least one year of experience in an analytical laboratory setting.
    • Technical training and familiarity with analytical equipment and chemical principles.
  • Experience: Minimum of one year in a laboratory environment; experience with battery materials is advantageous.
  • Understanding of chemical processes, including acid/base reactions and chemical identification.
  • Prior experience with analytical techniques such as ICP-OES, Karl Fischer Titration, Tapped Density, and Particle Size Analysis is highly desirable.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to teamwork.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs or more as required.
Physical and Environmental Requirements
  • Must be capable of wearing personal protective equipment, including dust masks, respirators, safety shoes, gloves, safety glasses, and ear protection.
  • Must meet OSHA standards for manual lifting guidelines.
  • Job duties require standing, walking, and using hands to operate tools and controls; reaching, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, or crouching may be necessary.
  • Ability to stand and/or walk for extended periods and work in various weather conditions.
