Position Summary: The Production Operator III is tasked with managing the manufacturing equipment for lithium-ion battery materials. Key responsibilities encompass performing quality assessments, engaging in basic troubleshooting and maintenance of equipment throughout the production cycle, and preparing qualifying products and packages for distribution.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate the process water facility via PLC control units to ensure all pumps and motors are functioning correctly.
  • Monitor instrument readings and conduct calibration or basic preventive maintenance as necessary.
  • Assess treatment process performance by interpreting flow meter, pressure gauge, and quality analyzer data.
  • Maintain accurate and organized records of operational checklists, test outcomes, and chemical consumption.
  • Manage and uphold a Reverse Osmosis (RO) system, chemical reactors/tanks, pumps, and press filters.
  • Conduct inspections of process equipment and troubleshoot operational issues.
  • Document process metrics such as flow, pressure, temperature, and quality data.
  • Coordinate minor repair and improvement projects as needed.
  • Assist in the collection and testing of process recycling water samples when required.
  • Participate in safety audits, operational procedure reviews, and quality assurance documentation.
  • Recommend corrective measures and ensure their implementation.
  • Collaborate with other departments regarding production and quality issues.
  • Be prepared to respond to emergency situations to support system operations.
  • Ensure compliance with Company Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), policies, and environmental regulations.
  • Communicate effectively with the Shift Leader regarding safety, production, quality, or any operational concerns. Actively engage in pre-shift meetings to aid in the development of individual work plans.
  • Execute manufacturing tasks related to the recycling and production of battery materials.
  • Continuously monitor processes and perform visual quality checks to meet standards.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment.
  • Perform cleaning and routine preventive maintenance on heavy machinery.
  • Utilize personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
  • Operate material handling equipment, including forklifts, drum dollies, hoists, and basic hand and power tools.
  • Accurately document data such as process metrics, equipment downtime, raw material lot numbers, and process yields in accordance with good documentation practices.
  • Ensure equipment and work areas are cleaned post-use and maintained per the preventive maintenance schedule.
  • Assist in maintaining adequate supplies to ensure the team has necessary resources for project completion.
  • Adhere to all Environmental, Health, and Safety (EH&S) policies, practices, and procedures relevant to departmental responsibilities.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Essential Skills and Qualifications:

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions.
  • Strong communication skills to understand and follow verbal and written operational procedures.
  • Knowledge of chemical hazards associated with materials used in the facility.
  • Understanding of potential interactions between various chemicals; products generated through acid/base reactions.
  • Comprehension of chemical and machinery processes, as well as mechanical and electrical equipment.
  • Detail-oriented with strong verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Proficient in basic to intermediate mathematics, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, and ratios.

Physical Requirements:

  • Commitment to supporting the EHS management process for ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 certification, including participation in compliance with policies, objectives, operational controls, and documentation.
  • Engagement in all EHS aspects, including reporting hazards and incidents without fear of reprisal.
  • Attendance at an Environment, Health, and Safety Orientation program relevant to the work environment.
  • Adherence to the 6S methodology to maintain organized workspaces and resources, enhancing productivity and safety.
  • Capability to wear task-specific personal protective equipment, including dust masks, respirators, safety shoes, gloves, safety glasses, and ear protection.
  • Ability to meet OSHA standards for manual lifting guidelines: < 50lbs.
  • While performing job duties, the employee must stand, walk, and use hands to operate tools and controls; reach with hands or arms; climb, balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch as necessary.
  • Capacity to stand and/or walk for extended periods.
  • Willingness to work in various weather conditions and temperatures.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in manufacturing and/or production or management evaluation.
  • Associate degree or higher preferred, along with equivalent experience in a related field.
  • Experience in lithium-ion battery manufacturing processes is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with electrical or PLC programming and troubleshooting is a plus.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications (PowerPoint, Excel, Word) is required.
  • Ability to wear a respirator and other necessary PPE.
  • Willingness to participate in maintenance and operational training programs.
