Job Overview

The Laboratory Technician at our Covington Plant will report directly to the Quality Manager. This role is crucial for conducting final quality assessments of finished products and fostering ongoing enhancements in the plant's manufacturing processes.

Work Schedule: 12-Hour Shifts - Fixed Schedule

Key Responsibilities
  • Adhere to all safety and environmental regulations at the company, state, and federal levels.
  • Conduct laboratory analyses on raw materials and finished product samples.
  • Perform internal audits, including process evaluations and ISO compliance checks.
  • Execute complex chemical reactions as part of the testing process.
  • Calibrate and maintain analytical instruments according to manufacturer specifications.
  • Handle, mix, and prepare chemicals for sample analysis.
  • Manage multiple samples and their replicates throughout the shift.
  • Ensure a clean and efficient workspace by maintaining equipment and following a preventative maintenance schedule.
  • Meet the physical demands of the role, including prolonged periods of standing and walking.
Additional Duties
  • Support the Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) management system to achieve ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 certifications.
  • Engage in all EHS-related activities, including reporting hazards and incidents without fear of reprisal.
  • Participate in an Environment, Health, and Safety Orientation tailored to the work environment.
  • Implement the 6S methodology to maintain organized workspaces, enhancing both productivity and safety.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Education:
    • Associate Degree in Chemistry, Physics, or Engineering, with at least one year of experience in an analytical laboratory setting.
    • Technical training and proficiency with analytical equipment and chemistry principles.
  • Experience: Minimum of one year in a laboratory role, with experience in battery materials considered advantageous.
  • Familiarity with chemical processes, including acid/base reactions and chemical identification.
  • Prior experience with analytical techniques such as ICP-OES, Karl Fischer Titration, Tapped Density, and Particle Size Analysis is highly desirable.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to teamwork.
  • Ability to lift weights of 50 lbs or more.
Physical and Environmental Requirements
  • Must be capable of wearing personal protective equipment, including dust masks, respirators, safety shoes, gloves, safety glasses, and ear protection.
  • Must meet OSHA standards for manual lifting: < 50 lbs.
  • Job duties require standing, walking, and using hands to operate tools and equipment; reaching, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, or crouching as necessary.
  • Ability to stand and/or walk for extended periods.
  • Must be able to work in various weather conditions and temperatures.
