Position Overview
As the Chief Medical Officer, you will provide essential medical leadership to the Medical Staff Associates, ensuring their training and compliance with industry standards. You will typically hold the role of the primary physician registered as the Laboratory Director with the relevant regulatory authorities.
Key Responsibilities
  • Act as the primary physician for regulatory reporting, ensuring adherence to federal and state regulations, including Title 21 of the Code of Federal Regulations.
  • Either fulfill or delegate the responsibilities of 'laboratory director', 'technical consultant', or 'clinical consultant' as outlined by the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act of 1988 (CLIA).
  • Ensure compliance with CLIA/COLA training and proficiency testing, and oversee the documentation of standardization processes.
  • Review and comply with all company policies and procedures, maintaining high medical standards and ensuring compliance with current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMPs).
  • Provide medical oversight and training to Medical Staff Associates, evaluating their progress and recommending certification.
  • Conduct regular reviews of Medical Staff Associates' performance and maintain documentation of these evaluations.
  • Engage in monthly meetings with Medical Staff Associates to discuss relevant medical topics and document these discussions.
  • Collaborate with the Center Manager and Compliance Specialist during weekly visits to ensure quality assurance.
  • Serve as a communication link between the Corporate Medical Director and the Center Medical Staff, preparing reports and participating in conference calls.
  • Address inquiries regarding donor suitability for long-term plasmapheresis and provide guidance to Center Medical Staff on donor-related questions.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding employee and donor records throughout all responsibilities.
  • Review medical incident reports and abnormal test results, ensuring appropriate actions are taken before donors resume donating.
  • Oversee donor health and safety in non-red blood cell immunization programs, monitoring clinical responses when applicable.
  • Conduct evaluations for red cell recipients in the Anti-D Program, ensuring compliance with medical protocols.
  • Stay informed about infectious disease markets and donor suitability following adverse reactions.
  • Perform additional medical services as required by the organization.
Qualifications
  • MD or DO degree from an accredited medical or osteopathic institution.
  • Must possess a current and active medical license in the state of practice.
  • A minimum of one year of residency training as an MD or DO.
