Job OverviewLycoming College is seeking qualified candidates for the role of Communications Officer within the Public Safety department.

As one of the oldest and most esteemed residential liberal arts institutions in the United States, Lycoming College invites applications for two full-time Communications Officer positions.

We are dedicated to providing a premier undergraduate education while promoting an inclusive and equitable environment for all faculty, staff, and students. The Communications Officer serves as a vital point of contact for the Lycoming community, necessitating a keen awareness of the diverse needs and experiences of all individuals on campus.

This role offers two full-time shifts: Sunday to Thursday from 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM and Monday to Friday from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, both of which come with benefits. The starting pay for these positions is $13.50 per hour, with retention bonuses of $0.50 per hour after six months and an additional $1.00 per hour after one year of continuous employment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Respond to and accurately document service requests in line with established policies and procedures, including:
    • Alarm responses (fire, facility systems, etc.)
    • Assistance for students, staff, and visitors
    • Emergency situations
  • Engage effectively and respectfully with all campus community members and visitors.
  • Manage lost and found items in accordance with policies.
  • Maintain communication logs, including radio and vehicle use records.
  • Distribute and manage keys as per established protocols.
  • De-escalate challenging situations with calmness and empathy, ensuring respect for individual rights.
  • Support local law enforcement and emergency services as needed.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
Education: High school diploma required.

Experience and Skills:
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Word and internet usage.
  • Exceptional customer service and communication skills, particularly in sensitive situations.
  • Strong written communication abilities for effective reporting.

Abilities:
  • Ability to understand and apply college policies and procedures.
  • Capability to make sound decisions in emergency scenarios.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
  • Commitment to confidentiality and professional conduct in sensitive situations.
  • Capacity to manage multiple responsibilities, especially under stress.
