Lycoming College is seeking qualified candidates for the role of Public Safety Communications Specialist within the Public Safety department.

As one of the oldest and most esteemed residential liberal arts institutions in the United States, Lycoming College invites applications for two full-time positions as a Public Safety Communications Specialist.

This role serves as a primary point of contact for the Lycoming community within the Public Safety Office, necessitating a keen awareness of the diverse needs and experiences of all individuals on campus.

The available positions include a full-time schedule from Sunday to Thursday, 3:00 pm to 11:00 pm, and another from Sunday to Thursday, 11:00 pm to 7:00 am. Compensation for these roles starts at $13.50 per hour, with retention bonuses of $0.50 per hour after six months of employment and an additional $1.00 per hour after one year of service.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Promptly respond to and accurately document service requests in accordance with established policies and procedures, including but not limited to:
    • Alarm systems (fire, physical plant, etc.)
    • Assistance for students, staff, and visitors
    • Emergency situations
  • Communicate effectively and respectfully with all members of the campus community and visitors.
  • Manage lost and found property in accordance with established protocols.
  • Maintain communication logs, including:
    • Radio/telephone log
    • Vehicle use log
  • Distribute and retrieve keys from the key cabinet.
  • De-escalate challenging situations by remaining calm, empathetic, and exercising sound judgment while respecting the rights of individuals.
  • Assist local law enforcement, fire, and emergency service agencies as needed.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
Education: High school diploma required.

Experience and Skills:
Essential skills include:
  • Proficiency in computer applications (knowledge of Microsoft Word; experience with email and internet).
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal communication skills to handle sensitive situations with diplomacy.
  • Excellent written communication skills for effective reporting.

Abilities:
  • Ability to understand and apply college policies and procedures.
  • Ability to make quick, sound decisions in emergency situations.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • Ability to demonstrate professionalism in sensitive situations.
  • Ability to manage multiple responsibilities, particularly in high-stress scenarios.
