Position OverviewLycoming College is seeking qualified candidates for the role of Communications Officer within the Public Safety division.

As one of the oldest residential liberal arts institutions in the United States, Lycoming College invites applications for two full-time Communications Officer positions. This role is essential in ensuring effective communication within the Public Safety Office, serving as the initial point of contact for the campus community.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Respond to and accurately document service requests in line with established protocols, including:
    • Alarm responses (fire and security)
    • Assistance for students, staff, and visitors
    • Emergency situations
  • Engage respectfully and effectively with all campus community members and visitors.
  • Manage lost and found items according to college policies.
  • Maintain communication logs, including radio and vehicle usage records.
  • Oversee key distribution and returns.
  • De-escalate challenging situations with empathy and professionalism.
  • Collaborate with local law enforcement and emergency services as needed.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
Education: High school diploma required.

Skills and Experience:
  • Proficient in computer applications, particularly Microsoft Word, email, and internet navigation.
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills to handle sensitive situations with tact.
  • Excellent written communication abilities for report documentation.

Abilities:
  • Ability to understand and apply college policies and procedures.
  • Quick decision-making skills in emergency scenarios.
  • Capacity to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to foster effective relationships with colleagues and community members.
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in sensitive situations.
  • Manage multiple responsibilities, particularly in high-pressure environments.
