Position Title: Construction Manager

Reports to: Director of Construction

Position Status: Permanent – Full Time

FLSA Status: Exempt STOT

Location: Pasadena, TX

Work Schedule: Standard schedule is Monday through Friday.

Objective: The Construction Manager is tasked with orchestrating and overseeing all construction activities across one or multiple project sites. This role serves as the primary liaison between Construction and various departments including HSE, Quality, Engineering, Procurement, Project Management, Project Controls, as well as key personnel from the Client's site.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Accountable for the strategic direction, coordination, and effectiveness of all on-site construction operations and associated support functions including HSE, Quality, Material Management, Procurement, Construction Engineering, and Project Controls.
  • Foster a robust construction HSE culture that integrates safety and environmental consciousness into daily operations.
  • Guide the Project Team in crafting the Construction Execution Plan, work breakdown structure, construction timelines, resource allocations, equipment rental schedules, and progress assessments.
  • Maintain stewardship of the Construction Execution Plan by regularly evaluating project dynamics and updating the plan while ensuring clear communication of construction needs within the Project Team.
  • Ensure that each direct report comprehends the Construction Execution Plan and other critical information related to construction execution, leading the site team towards successful project delivery.
  • Identify and engage key project stakeholders early in the project lifecycle, cultivating strong relationships through effective communication.
  • Oversee and manage costs, schedules, progress, and productivity, including analyzing discrepancies and implementing corrective measures for negative trends.
  • Inform management of developments that may impact project timelines, costs, client relations, and interdepartmental dynamics.
  • Assist in the preparation and processing of change orders, project cost analysis, and reporting.
  • Delegate responsibilities and authority to team members for the planning and execution of tasks.
  • Conduct thorough reviews of contracts and all relevant scope documents, drawings, and specifications.
  • Ensure that all major and minor equipment and bulk materials are identified, procured, delivered, and allocated in accordance with the project timeline.
  • Draft subcontract scopes of work, assess bids, and recommend awards.
  • Promote an environment of transparent and honest communication between H+M and the Owner, aiming for excellence in client relationships.
  • Engage in constructability reviews to ensure adherence to safety, quality, cost, and schedule commitments.
  • Represent the company and project team during bidding processes, project scope development, client meetings, and project management discussions.
  • Operate within company policies as outlined in the H+M Employee Handbook and Work Processes, as well as industry standards and regulations.
  • Follow both written and verbal instructions. Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor as necessary.

Essential Skills & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Construction Management is required.
  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in industrial construction, with at least 3 years in direct construction supervision; EPC experience is preferred.
  • Exceptional communication and organizational abilities.
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, capable of earning respect and credibility through actions, communication, understanding, and personal presence.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with others to achieve project and organizational objectives.

Physical Requirements:

  • Occasionally lift objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Sit for extended periods.
  • Occasionally stoop, kneel, or crouch.
  • Utilize hands and arms to reach for, grasp, and manipulate objects.

Work Environment: The working conditions associated with this role include those typical of an office environment as well as an indoor/outdoor manufacturing setting, which may involve exposure to varying weather conditions, working at elevated heights, climbing stairs and ladders, and handling tools and mechanical equipment. This position requires the use of standard manufacturing personal protective equipment as well as advanced protective gear as necessary.
