Position Overview

The Investment Accounting Manager oversees the evaluation and preparation of accurate investment accounting for diverse asset categories. This role includes managerial responsibilities such as reviewing tasks related to designated processes, mentoring team members, and suggesting as well as participating in the enhancement of processes that may extend beyond direct oversight.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborates with the Business Lead to identify focal points for accounting, process, or reporting enhancements. Collects data to thoroughly comprehend and summarize issues, assesses risks and challenges, and works cooperatively to propose solutions and implement approved modifications.
  • Conducts accounting operations and manages the preparation of month-end, quarter-end, and annual documentation (GAAP, STAT & IFRS) for assigned investment accounting sectors.
  • Provides assistance to business divisions, Investments, and other stakeholders to ensure that all transactions are processed correctly within the various investment accounting platforms.
  • Organizes and consolidates investment data for both internal and external auditors.
  • Investigates, reviews, and interprets investment information/reports, offers solutions to resolve discrepancies, and generates reports.
  • Supports the Executive Director as necessary, including special initiatives and direct oversight of Investment Accounting Analysts and/or Senior Investment Accountants, along with indirect supervision of other team members in the department.
  • Performs supervisory functions, including hiring, training, evaluating, coaching, and managing direct reports. Cultivates a positive and engaged workplace environment. Guides associates and provides insights on professional development.
  • Maintains professional relationships with external stakeholders, including investment advisors, investment accounting managers, and both internal and external auditors, as well as with internal departments.
  • Collaborates with other functional areas within RGA to ensure efficient and effective accounting and reporting practices, responding to inquiries from various functional areas.
Qualifications

Education and Experience

Essential:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting/Finance or equivalent relevant experience
  • 8+ years of accounting or auditing experience, including 1-3 years in insurance accounting (statutory)
  • 2-5 years of supervisory or management experience
Skills and Competencies

Essential:
  • Proficient in Word, intermediate skills in Excel and SQL/Query
  • Solid understanding of Statutory, GAAP, and IFRS accounting
  • In-depth knowledge of accounting/finance principles and financial reporting
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills, demonstrating the ability to convey and share knowledge effectively.
  • Ability to adapt swiftly to new methodologies, work under tight deadlines, and manage stressful situations.
  • Strong investigative, analytical, and problem-solving capabilities
  • Ability to set objectives and manage multiple tasks, clients, and projects concurrently;
  • Capability to balance priorities, deadlines, and deliverables effectively
  • Ability to thrive in a team-oriented environment and engage in departmental/team initiatives

The general pay range for this position is $84,800-$144,600 per year. Base pay varies depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and market location. In addition, RGA provides an annual bonus plan that includes all roles, and some positions are eligible for participation in our long-term equity incentive plan. RGA maintains a full range of health, retirement, and other employee benefits.
