The Investment Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing the research, examination, and evaluation of investment data and reports to guarantee the accuracy of financial outcomes and analytics. This role includes managing investment reporting functions, conducting analyses of investment data, preparing internal management reports, and reviewing investment footnotes for external disclosures, as well as participating in special projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversees processes related to net investment income, realized gains and losses, and investment yield data, ensuring compliance with SOX controls and GAAP standards. This includes the preparation of month-end, quarter-end, and annual reports for designated asset and Investment Accounting areas.
- Conducts thorough reviews and provides explanations of analyses concerning net investment income, realized gains and losses, and investment yield data for all invested assets (e.g., bonds, equities, mortgage loans, derivatives, alternative assets), including managing the analysis and reporting of related impairments and allowances.
- Analyzes substantial volumes of data/reports and/or statements to identify discrepancies and compile financial information for reporting, while making informed recommendations. Gathers information to accurately understand and summarize issues, evaluates risks and challenges, collaborates to propose solutions, and implements approved changes.
- Performs supervisory functions, including training and mentoring analysts on the team. Cultivates a positive and engaged work atmosphere, guiding associates in their professional development.
- Provides assistance to the Director and VP, including managing special projects and supervising Investment Accounting Analysts. Collaborates with the Director of Investment Accounting and others within the department to identify areas for improvement in accounting, processes, or reporting, including data-related initiatives.
- Coordinates and compiles investment information for internal and external auditors. Works with other functional areas to ensure efficient and effective investment reporting practices and responds to inquiries from various departments.
Education and Experience
Required:
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting/Finance or equivalent relevant experience
- 6+ years of experience in accounting or finance
- 1-2 years of supervisory experience
Required:
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
- Results-driven, action-oriented, and adaptable to new methods, capable of working under tight deadlines and high-pressure situations. Demonstrates the ability to set goals and manage multiple tasks, clients, and projects simultaneously while balancing priorities and deliverables.
