Position Overview

The role involves the creation and oversight of investment portfolios that align with the risk and return expectations of insurance liabilities or surplus. This position may lead the development and execution of investment mandates, as well as the selection and management of both internal and external investment managers. The focus is on effective communication and the implementation of investment strategies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Acts as a secondary contact, transitioning to primary contact for external manager and segment relationships.
  • Develops portfolio monitoring systems and prepares internal and external manager reporting and analysis, implementing necessary actions.
  • Serves as the daily liaison for internal manager teams, recommending and executing investment strategies.
  • Assists in sourcing ideas and reviewing deals related to yield enhancement efforts with investment banks and external managers, providing recommendations.
  • Generates and proposes actionable investment ideas utilizing a relative value framework.
  • Monitors cash positions and aids in the portfolio allocation process.
  • Conducts analysis of Stable Value portfolios, creating and updating reviews; participates in manager due diligence and resolves product/manager inquiries.
  • Addresses compliance management issues and performs periodic reviews of guideline and compliance rules.
  • Enhances investment system expertise to support the portfolio management process.
  • Reviews regular and ad hoc investment reports.
  • Collaborates with the asset liability management team to implement strategies.
  • Conducts primary due diligence and research on new investment opportunities.
  • Contributes to the decision-making process regarding transaction progression.
  • Plays a vital role in the underwriting process for new investment opportunities, drafting transaction theses and identifying key risks.
  • Prepares memos for new investment approvals.
  • Supports the management of assigned general partner relationships.
  • Produces regular analyses and reports for assigned investments, assisting with amendments and additional funding requests.
  • Reviews periodic and ad-hoc portfolio management reports.
  • Compiles data and analysis for portfolio reviews, ensuring accuracy.
  • Ensures a smooth funding process and ongoing data implementation, resolving any trade operations issues.
  • Conducts primary research for strategic initiatives.
  • Develops and implements new tools to enhance the investment process.
  • Manages the workflow of portfolio analysts.
  • Maintains regular and predictable attendance.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • MBA with 2+ years of relevant experience or a Bachelor's degree in Economics/Finance with 4+ years of relevant experience.
  • CFA designation or significant progress towards it.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills, demonstrating the ability to share and impart knowledge effectively.
  • Advanced understanding of investment and market concepts.
  • Strong knowledge of asset liability management.
  • Proficient in portfolio and fixed income analytics, including sector weightings, portfolio duration, performance attribution, convexity, and interest rate term structure.
  • Strong investigative, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, clients, and projects while balancing priorities and deadlines.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment and contribute to departmental projects.
  • Ability to balance attention to detail with departmental objectives.
  • Ability to translate business needs into viable solutions.
  • Advanced negotiation skills for internal and external discussions.
  • Strong customer relationship management and change management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects or teams and set relevant goals.
  • Negotiation and persuasion skills.
  • Ability to liaise with individuals across various operational, functional, and technical disciplines.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree, ASA, FSA, or CAIA designation.
  • 2+ years of experience in corporate credit.
  • 2+ years of experience in alternative investments.
  • 2+ years of experience in fixed income management within an insurance client environment.
  • Proven track record of successfully implementing investment and portfolio strategies.
