Job Overview

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Physical Education Support Specialist collaborates closely with Physical Education instructors and students to provide essential instructional assistance aimed at enhancing educational growth and skill proficiency.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist students with curriculum-related tasks as directed by the classroom instructor.
  • Exhibit knowledge and understanding of various physical activities.
  • Familiarize oneself with instructional units and daily lesson outlines provided by the teacher.
  • Prepare to aid in delivering directions and instructions as instructed by the educator.
  • Keep the supervising teacher informed of any potential issues or noteworthy occurrences.
  • Address inquiries and concerns promptly and effectively.
  • Compile necessary reports and maintain accurate records.
  • Adhere to all policies, rules, and regulations set forth by the School Board.
  • Demonstrate effective interpersonal skills to function as a collaborative team member.
  • Show support for the YMCA of Southwest Florida and its mission and objectives.
  • Engage in additional incidental tasks that align with the goals of this role. Attend all training sessions and meetings to enhance knowledge and understanding.
  • Assist the teacher with program implementation and demonstrations.
  • Understand the student conduct guidelines established by the physical education instructor and manage discipline accordingly.
  • Support record-keeping and preparation of evaluations and grading.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Preferred: Minimum of an Associate's degree.
  • Must successfully comply with the Association's background screening policies.
  • Previous experience working with children is essential.
  • Possess strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective interaction with students, parents, school staff, and public health officials.
  • Ability to maintain organized and legible records.
  • Willingness to accept guidance from the Principal and direction from the public health nurse.
  • Demonstrate necessary technology skills to fulfill job responsibilities.
  • Capability to organize and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Possess essential secretarial and telephone skills.

CERTIFICATIONS AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:

  • Current CPR and First Aid certifications are required.
  • Completion of YMCA Blood Borne Pathogens training is necessary.
  • Completion of YMCA Child Sexual Abuse Prevention training is required.
  • Additional training sessions as recommended by the Supervisor.

  • While performing the duties of this role, the employee is regularly required to engage in various physical activities. This includes a full range of motion, manual dexterity, and hand-eye coordination. Corrected vision, speech, and hearing within normal ranges are required, or appropriate accommodations must be made for task completion.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds is necessary.
  • Extended periods of standing, bending, stooping, and walking are required.
