Physical Education Support Specialist

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Physical Education Support Specialist collaborates closely with Physical Education instructors and students to provide essential instructional assistance aimed at enhancing student development and proficiency.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist students with curriculum-related tasks as directed by the classroom instructor.
- Exhibit knowledge and skills relevant to various physical activities.
- Familiarize oneself with instructional units and daily lesson plans prepared by the educator.
- Prepare to assist in delivering directions and instructions as requested by the instructor.
- Keep the supervising authority informed of any potential issues or unusual occurrences.
- Respond promptly to inquiries and concerns from students and staff.
- Compile all necessary reports and maintain accurate records.
- Adhere to all policies, rules, and regulations set forth by the School Board.
- Demonstrate effective interpersonal skills to function as a valuable team member.
- Show support for the mission and objectives of the YMCA of Southwest Florida.
- Perform additional incidental tasks aligned with the goals of this role. Attend all training sessions and meetings to enhance knowledge and understanding.
- Assist the instructor with program implementation and demonstrations.
- Understand the student code of conduct established by the physical education instructor and manage discipline accordingly.
- Support record-keeping and preparation of evaluations and grading.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Preferred: Minimum of an Associate's degree.
- Must successfully meet the organization's background screening policies.
- Previous experience working with children is required.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills for interaction with students, parents, school staff, and public health personnel.
- Ability to maintain organized and legible records.
- Willingness to accept supervision from the Principal and guidance from public health professionals.
- Proficient technology skills necessary for completing assignments.
- Ability to prioritize and organize activities effectively.
- Possess secretarial and telephone skills.
CERTIFICATIONS AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:
- Current CPR and First Aid certifications are mandatory.
- Completion of YMCA Blood Borne Pathogens Training is required.
- Completion of YMCA Child Sexual Abuse Prevention training is necessary.
- Additional training sessions as recommended by the Supervisor.
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

- While executing the responsibilities of this role, the employee is regularly required to engage in various physical activities. This includes a full range of motion, manual dexterity, and hand-eye coordination. - Ability to lift up to 30 pounds is necessary.
- Extended periods of standing, bending, stooping, and walking are expected.
