Position: Environmental Health & Safety Specialist

Location: Houston, TX

Key Responsibilities:

  • Advise on safety training programs for employees and contractors to ensure adherence to relevant regulations and company policies while promoting industry best practices.
  • Oversee the assignment of necessary training for safe operational procedures, ensuring all certifications are up to date and reporting any discrepancies to management.
  • Facilitate EHS orientations for staff and contractors, providing education on new and revised procedures, processes, and regulations.
  • Investigate and document any reported unsafe conditions, near misses, or incidents, ensuring timely reporting to management.
  • Address any improper conduct that may jeopardize safety, documenting and reporting such behaviors to the appropriate authorities.
  • Conduct regular audits of facilities to verify compliance with EHS regulations and company standards, escalating issues as needed.
  • Develop and implement Emergency Action Plans, coordinating with local emergency services and organizing drills as the site emergency coordinator.
  • Maintain ISO 14001 and 45001 certifications through effective management of compliance processes.
  • Propose enhancements to the EHS program by monitoring regulatory changes, researching best practices, and collaborating with relevant regulatory bodies.
  • Analyze and report on EHS-related data from facilities, providing insights to management for informed decision-making.
  • Oversee the workers' compensation process, ensuring accurate and timely claim submissions in collaboration with HR.
  • Manage the company's drug and alcohol program, working closely with HR for compliance.
  • Review and suggest updates to EHS-related contracts and agreements with third-party suppliers.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience.
  • At least 2 years of experience in EHS.
  • Proven ability to interpret and comply with OSHA and other relevant regulations.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a history of successful collaboration with clients and suppliers.
  • Demonstrated leadership and organizational skills.
  • Continuous improvement mindset in all areas of responsibility.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Willingness to travel occasionally (less than 5%).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification as a Safety Professional or equivalent.
  • Experience in environments certified under ISO 14001 and 45001.
  • Background in working with field service organizations.
