Your Role:

The Clinical Nutrition Specialist will implement the nutrition care process to evaluate, diagnose, and provide nutritional interventions while monitoring the nutritional status and progress of patients. This role adheres to the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Standards of Practice in Nutrition Care and Standards of Professional Performance.

Your Contributions to the Team:

  • Conducts nutrition-focused physical assessments, gathers measurements, reviews medical histories, and collects data through interviews while utilizing validated tools to evaluate anthropometric status and calculate comparative standards.
  • Analyzes assessment data to identify nutrition risks, problems, and criteria consistent with malnutrition, as well as knowledge gaps and high-risk health behaviors.
  • Provides nutrition recommendations, orders, education, counseling, and referrals to additional services as needed.
  • Delivers counseling and education that is culturally sensitive and appropriate for patients with conditions requiring nutritional management, employing evidence-based theories such as the transtheoretical model and motivational interviewing.
  • Facilitates follow-up to monitor progress, adjusting nutrition care plans to achieve goals and promote optimal health outcomes.
  • Offers supervised practice experiences for dietetic interns and new staff that meet educational objectives. Stays informed about emerging research and evidence-based guidelines, and participates in research and performance improvement initiatives.
  • Ensures accurate and timely documentation in electronic health records, adhering to protocols and standard operating procedures to reflect patient care. Responds promptly to internal electronic communications.
  • Engages in patient care rounds, developing nutrition care plans in collaboration with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals, while promoting evidence-based nutrition practices.

Qualifications Required for Success:

Minimum Requirements:


• Bachelor's degree in nutrition or a related field AND 4 years of clinical experience

OR Graduate degree in nutrition or a related field AND 2 years of clinical experience

OR Post-Graduate degree in nutrition or a related field AND 1 year of clinical experience


• Active registered dietitian status with the Commission of Dietetic Registration (CDR)


• Current active licensure with the state Department of Health


• Certification as a Nutrition Support Clinician (CNSC)
