Work Schedule: Part-Time/Day
Hours: 20 hours/week, 7 AM - 12 PM, 4 days a week, primarily weekdays.
Role Overview:
The Clinical Nutrition Specialist employs the nutrition care process to evaluate, diagnose, provide nutrition interventions, and monitor the nutritional status and progress of patients. This role adheres to the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Standards of Practice in Nutrition Care and Standards of Professional Performance for registered dietitians. The specialist actively engages in exceptional customer service and maintains respectful relationships with all stakeholders.
Key Contributions to the Team:
+ Assessment: Conducts nutrition-focused physical assessments, gathers measurements, reviews medical histories, collects data through interviews, utilizes validated assessment tools, evaluates anthropometric data, and calculates comparative standards.
+ Diagnosis: Analyzes assessment data to identify nutrition-related risks, problems, criteria consistent with malnutrition, knowledge gaps, and/or high-risk health behaviors.
+ Intervention: Provides nutrition recommendations, orders, education/counseling, and/or referrals to additional services.
+ Education and Counseling: Delivers counseling and education that is culturally sensitive and appropriate for patients requiring nutritional management. Applies evidence-based theories and concepts, including the transtheoretical model and motivational interviewing techniques.
+ Monitoring: Offers follow-up to track progress. Adjusts nutrition care plans to achieve nutritional goals and promote optimal health outcomes.
+ Leadership: Provides supervised practice opportunities for dietetic interns and new staff to meet learning objectives. Stays updated on emerging research and evidence-based guidelines, and participates in research, performance improvement, and related initiatives.
Qualifications:
Essential Expertise and Experience:
+ Bachelor’s degree in nutrition or a related field
+ Commission on Dietetic Registration
+ Active registered dietitian status with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR)
+ Current active licensure in the state of practice.
