Position Overview:

Kingsbridge Heights Community Center (KHCC) is a well-established multi-service not-for-profit organization dedicated to enhancing the lives of Bronx residents. With a commitment to fostering education and well-being, KHCC serves a diverse community, including families facing various challenges. The Youth Mental Health Advocate role is designed for recent high school graduates who are exploring career paths in youth development and human services. Ideal candidates should possess some experience in peer mentoring or demonstrate a willingness to engage with young individuals in an after-school program environment. The schedule will be flexible, primarily during afternoons and evenings, tailored to the needs of each program site.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate or assist in leading groups of 10-15 youth participants from grades 6-12 through a comprehensive after-school program.
  • Ensure a positive, safe, and enjoyable experience for all participants and their families.
  • Design and execute engaging, age-appropriate activities across various themes, including sports, leadership, STEM, outdoor education, literacy, and the arts.
  • Collaborate with team members and support staff, including directors and activity specialists, to enhance program delivery.
  • Work alongside directors to create hands-on lesson plans and project-based activities.
  • Utilize positive youth development principles and behavioral intervention strategies as needed.
  • Support participants in developing social-emotional skills through group check-ins and team-building exercises.
  • Supervise participants during meals and unstructured social times, including off-site trips and special events.
  • Participate in weekly team meetings, orientations, and training sessions as scheduled.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisors.

Physical Requirements:

This position requires the ability to stand, walk, sit, and engage in various physical activities. Employees may need to lift and move items weighing up to 50 pounds and must possess good vision capabilities.

Work Schedule:

The role requires approximately 20 hours per week, with specific hours set for Monday through Friday, including flexibility for full-day camps during school closures.
