Your RoleWe are seeking a dynamic, enthusiastic self-starter to lead our wellness initiative, Teens Make Health Happen, in several middle or high schools. As a mentor, you will guide teens in making healthier lifestyle choices for themselves and their families, acting as a catalyst for sustainable health improvements and creating leadership opportunities for students at your designated sites.
Key Responsibilities- Build Strong Connections: Collaborate with teen wellness leaders and site partners to ensure effective implementation of HealthCorps programming across multiple school locations. Engage with your Regional Program Manager and fellow mentors while participating in ongoing professional development opportunities.
- Evaluate School Needs: Conduct research to identify health disparities affecting the schools you serve, and measure your impact through needs assessments and progress tracking.
- Manage Wellness Clubs: Plan and oversee the successful execution of the Teens Make Health Happen program, dedicating 6-8+ hours each week throughout the semester to your assigned schools.
- Promote Awareness: Organize monthly demonstrations and support regional events, while contributing to HealthCorps' social media platforms by sharing impactful stories and highlights from your program.
- Commit to Our Mission: Prioritize health and wellness in your daily activities, ensuring that relevant local health resources are accessible to all students and staff.
- Represent HealthCorps: Embody our organization’s values in all interactions, whether at school sites or community events, to connect teens and staff with HealthCorps resources.
Qualifications
- Current undergraduate or graduate student majoring in public health, public policy, biology, nutrition, marketing, psychology, education, social work, or related fields.
- Maintain good academic standing at your institution.
- Willingness to commit 6-8+ hours weekly for the entire semester.
- A strong desire to grow as a community leader and a comfort in presenting health-related topics to a teen audience.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to travel to assigned locations, potentially covering distances within the city.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds occasionally.
