Position Title: Youth Engagement Specialist - Restorative Practices

Position Summary

The Youth Engagement Specialist is a vital role designed for a dynamic individual passionate about fostering, executing, and advancing Restorative Justice methodologies within educational environments. This approach focuses on community restoration, healing, and the re-establishment of relationships following incidents of wrongdoing. It prioritizes principles of healing over punishment, inclusivity over exclusion, and personal accountability supported by the community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver direct services and implement restorative practices within educational institutions, aimed at community building and harm repair.
  • Provide guidance and support to youth who have caused harm, while also assisting victims and other affected parties in identifying their needs and navigating the restorative process.
  • Assess cases and disciplinary referrals to determine suitable restorative actions.
  • Prepare participants for and facilitate restorative circles and conferences.
  • Monitor restorative processes to ensure compliance with established agreements.
  • Coordinate program activities, including tracking cases and maintaining data records.
  • Collaborate with educational staff and community members to enhance existing programs and create new service delivery opportunities.
  • Offer on-site coaching and support to staff and partners involved in community-building and restorative interventions.
  • Work with various stakeholder groups to integrate restorative justice practices into current frameworks.
  • Maintain accurate records of restorative justice data to inform future decisions and generate impact reports.
  • Provide ongoing training and professional development in restorative justice to school personnel.
  • Engage with site leadership to formulate multi-year implementation strategies.
  • Coordinate implementation teams and ensure stakeholder engagement in activity planning.
  • Assist in the development of documentation, including enrollment forms, student files, and program materials.
  • Foster relationships with parents, community members, and educational staff.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience.
  • Strong understanding and commitment to the principles of restorative justice.
  • Experience in facilitating restorative circles and implementing restorative practices.
  • Ability to navigate challenging conversations with youth and adults.
  • Proven experience in group facilitation and training.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong networking and relationship-building abilities.
  • Familiarity with various data management systems.
  • Experience in curriculum development and training module creation.
  • Background in high school educational settings.
  • Knowledge of equity, cultural competency, and cross-cultural communication.
Compensation and Benefits

This full-time position offers an annual salary ranging from $47,000 to $50,000.
