Annually, KHCC serves thousands of families, ensuring an inclusive environment for children with special needs, low-income households, recent immigrants, survivors of abuse, and at-risk youth.

The Youth Wellness Advocate role is designed for recent high school graduates who are exploring career paths in youth development and human services. Ideal candidates will possess some experience in peer mentoring or a strong willingness to engage with children and adolescents in after-school program settings. The schedule will vary based on the specific needs of each program site.

Key Responsibilities:

● Facilitate or assist in leading groups of 10-15 youth participants in grades 6-12 through a comprehensive after-school program.

● Ensure a positive, safe, and enjoyable experience for all participants and their families.

● Design and execute engaging, age-appropriate activities across various themes, including sports, leadership, STEM, outdoor education, literacy, and the arts.

● Collaborate with team members and support staff, including directors and activity specialists, to enhance program delivery.

● Work alongside directors to create hands-on lesson plans and project-based activities.

● Implement positive youth development strategies, appropriate behavioral interventions, and conflict resolution techniques as needed.

● Support participants in developing social-emotional skills through group check-ins and team-building exercises that promote trust and openness.

● Supervise participants during meal times and unstructured social activities, including off-site trips and special events.

● Attend scheduled team meetings, orientations, and training sessions.

● Carry out additional duties as assigned by supervisors.

Physical Requirements:

● This position requires the ability to stand, walk, sit, talk, and hear regularly. Occasionally, it may involve moving quickly or lifting items weighing up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities needed include close and distance vision.

Work Schedule:

● The role entails approximately 20 hours per week, with varying hours based on program needs.
