Your Role:

The Director of Risk, Compliance & Safety - HE will spearhead a cohesive strategy aimed at developing and continuously enhancing the Safety and Compliance program across our diverse student housing partnerships.

This position entails providing guidance and oversight to teams responsible for daily safety operations, ensuring accountability for all facets of safety, compliance, risk mitigation, and management support. This role is integral to our Higher Education business line.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Champion the Corvias culture, mission, vision, and values, fostering a "Culture of Safety" by designing and implementing Safety and Compliance programs, including policies, practices, education, training, and compliance within the Higher Education sector.

2. Ensure environmental compliance and risk management across a geographically diverse student housing portfolio.

3. Identify relevant environmental regulations and risks, collaborating with Property Management Operations, Risk Management, Legal, and Corporate to establish effective compliance systems.

4. Translate discussions from meetings into actionable steps, ensuring timely follow-up and completion of tasks.

5. Drive the planning process to fruition in collaboration with higher education leadership and stakeholders.

6. Maintain operational awareness of each assigned location, traveling regularly to provide leadership presence and hands-on support as necessary.

7. Conduct routine on-site safety inspections and devise strategies to enhance operational efficiencies, employee compliance, and risk reduction.

8. Standardize operational consistency across locations through the development and refinement of EHS standard operating procedures.

9. Collaborate with University personnel to foster positive relationships regarding EH&S policies and procedures.

10. Lead regular safety meetings and training sessions at each partnership, assessing organizational needs and identifying areas for additional training.

11. Oversee the collection and maintenance of employee training records, health/safety manuals, incident reports, and other documentation.

12. Audit facilities or processes to identify vulnerabilities and proactively develop corrective action plans.

13. Support the engagement and performance of APPA inspections, developing work plans to ensure compliance and address deficiencies.

14. Collaborate with portfolio leadership to create and implement action plans.

15. Ensure adherence to applicable federal, state, and local regulations, including OSHA, and represent the company before relevant agencies as required.

16. Analyze EHS metrics and establish annual action plans for continuous improvement.

17. Conduct regular EHS management reviews with partner leadership.

18. Exemplify the highest standards of professionalism, leading the training and development of team members through coaching and mentoring.

Qualifications:

- Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred or equivalent industry experience.
- 12+ years of experience in supervising safety and compliance programs in large university-related buildings or similar environments.
- Technical understanding and experience with fire suppression systems.
- Advanced knowledge of EPA, OSHA, and comparable regulations; certifications such as AHERA, EPA LBP, HAZWASTE, and mold experience preferred.
- Familiarity with elevator operations and compliance.
- Proficiency in CMIS and RIMIS Systems.
- Strong technical skills with the ability to convey complex issues in an engaging manner.
- Proven ability to inspire and manage high-performing teams, including remote employees and external consultants.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills for building consensus and collaborating across all organizational levels.
- Critical thinking and analytical skills to resolve unforeseen project conditions and meet client expectations.
- Results-oriented with a focus on project completion.
- Proficient in word processing and spreadsheet software.
- Valid driver's license required.
- Willingness to travel up to 80% of the time.
