Position Overview:

The Asset Strategy division at Orlando Health is on the lookout for a seasoned leader to take on the role of Head of Strategic Planning within the Planning and Design Studio.

This division is tasked with overseeing all aspects of planning, real estate, design, construction, and maintenance for the health system's facilities across a broad market area.

The Head of Strategic Planning will lead a dedicated Planning team, focusing on comprehensive campus and facility planning, strategic acquisitions, development initiatives, and various special projects.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Reports directly to the Senior Director of Planning & Design, managing special programs, projects, and research initiatives as designated.
  • Collaborates with the Senior Director of Planning & Design, Director of Design, VP of Real Estate, and Senior Director of Asset Strategy to assess the organization’s real estate assets for optimization and growth prospects.
  • Guides the Planning team in conducting due diligence, pre-development activities, conceptual design, and securing necessary entitlements for targeted acquisitions and strategic development projects.
  • Engages with public officials and municipal staff, representing Orlando Health in public hearings related to planning and entitlements for future growth.
  • Oversees campus master planning and area development planning efforts, ensuring compliance with state and local zoning and growth management regulations.
  • Maintains and develops planning templates and standard operating procedures that align with industry best practices.
  • Conducts property analyses for strategic projects as required.
  • Demonstrates a proven ability to manage a team of industry professionals effectively.
  • Acts as an ambassador for the Asset Strategy team during interactions with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Supports the execution of the organization’s strategic plan.
  • Assists the Senior Director of Planning & Design with project management and implementation of the planned capital program.
  • Facilitates large group space programming initiatives as necessary.
  • Prepares informative executive reports for the Senior Director of Planning & Design at regular intervals.
  • Coordinates with the VP of Real Estate and legal counsel on real estate-related matters as needed.
  • Exhibits exceptional communication skills (both verbal and written) with all stakeholders, including staff, physicians, and external consultants.
  • Stays informed about local and national trends in real estate, planning, commercial real estate, healthcare, competitor activities, consumer preferences, economic conditions, new technologies, and regulatory requirements to support the organization’s strategic initiatives.
  • Maintains regular and punctual attendance in accordance with Orlando Health policies and applicable standards.
  • Ensures compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
Qualifications:

Education/Training:

  • Bachelor's degree in urban planning, environmental services, architecture, or a closely related field is required. A master's degree is preferred and may substitute for two years of relevant experience.

Licensure/Certification:

  • Certification or licensure in AICP, AIA, or PE is required.

Experience:

  • Over 10 years of relevant experience in planning, commercial real estate, or healthcare real estate, including urban planning, architecture, development, site selection, or geography.
  • At least 5 years of supervisory management experience leading teams and project initiatives.
