Position Description
Position Summary:
The Regional Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Manager plays a pivotal role in advocating and implementing the corporate HSE program. This position is essential for providing safety guidance to construction operations and nurturing the development of regional site safety professionals. The ideal candidate will work collaboratively with field teams to foster a secure work environment while exercising independent judgment to address safety-related challenges.
Responsibilities:
- Upholds, enforces, and actively promotes all corporate safety policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with our foremost core value - Safety first in all operations.
- Aids the HSE Department in overseeing the corporate safety program by conducting, monitoring, and reporting on incidents, near misses, audits, engagement activities, observations, orientations, training sessions, and other safety-related initiatives, along with maintaining accurate records.
- Acts as the regional safety representative during critical activities, crisis situations, and inspections or investigations by regulatory bodies.
- Collaborates with project teams in planning work and developing job hazard analyses and safe work practices.
- Conducts regular safety inspections, investigates accidents/incidents (including root cause analysis), performs industrial hygiene assessments, and executes safety audits on active construction sites.
- Prepares comprehensive daily and weekly safety reports.
- Facilitates safety orientations and training sessions for small and large groups.
- Mentors and supports regional site safety professionals.
- Participates in various construction meetings as required.
- Engages regularly with the HSE Operations Director.
- Provides safety coverage across the region as necessary to support operational needs.
- Undertakes additional assignments as required by the company’s needs.
Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree in a safety-related discipline is highly preferred.
- A minimum of 7 years of field safety experience in heavy civil construction, transportation, or a related field.
- At least 2 years of experience in rail construction or the ability to obtain rail credentials.
- Familiarity with general construction safety and health regulations, including OSHA standards.
- Certification as a Safety Professional (CSP), Safety Management Specialist (SMS), or Certified Health & Safety Technician (CHST) or equivalent is strongly preferred.
- Experience with Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) is beneficial.
- OSHA Authorized Construction Trainer certification is preferred.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential.
- Proficiency in computer applications, including Office 365 productivity tools.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to adapt to diverse personalities and management styles.
- Self-motivated with strong verbal and written communication abilities.
- Capability to lead a team efficiently and effectively.
- Dependable judgment and experience to plan and achieve objectives.
- Committed and diligent work ethic.
- Strong leadership qualities.
- Above-average organizational skills.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) is preferred.
- Willingness to travel within the region.
