General Overview
Under general supervision, this role encompasses a range of support and maintenance tasks related to computer networks, telecommunication systems, security alarms, access control, and electronic equipment utilized in municipal operations. The incumbent will provide proficient technical assistance to designated personnel and end users, managing daily operations of various file servers.
Key Responsibilities

- Maintain and support computer workstations, including desktop and laptop systems across various operating platforms, primarily focusing on Microsoft network and desktop environments.
- Plan and document installation criteria and related strategic initiatives; present findings to management as necessary.
- Evaluate user requests for hardware, software, and peripheral components to ensure compatibility with user needs and organizational standards.
- Oversee and coordinate the installation of new hardware, software, servers, and upgrades across various departments, utilizing standalone, online, and/or remote systems.
- Execute systems security updates for all network servers, including software applications, user files, and accounts.
- Assist in network capacity planning for both short-term and long-term organizational objectives.
- Assess system performance and recommend modifications to optimize the utilization of available hardware and software resources.
- Collaborate with software vendors and representatives to configure and modify system environments for specialized software implementations.
- Maintain records, reports, and documentation regarding system and software specifications and configurations.
- Review and analyze equipment maintenance and repair reports; maintain comprehensive files of all unit records and documentation.
- Research product availability and pricing to provide recommendations regarding systems for the organization.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Proficient understanding of current principles and practices in computer systems technology. Familiarity with PC hardware and software systems. Knowledge of hardware and software functionality, particularly within a Microsoft Windows-based LAN environment. Understanding of PC and file server operating system components, local and wide area networking, and current trends in the computer industry. Skilled in maintaining and troubleshooting computer operating systems.
Ability to review, classify, categorize, prioritize, and analyze data and information, exercising discretion in determining data classification. Capable of operating and controlling equipment, machinery, tools, and materials necessary for essential functions. Proficient in utilizing a variety of reference data and information, with the ability to make discretionary decisions regarding confidential matters. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Education and Experience Requirements: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, supplemented by three (3) years of desktop support experience. Network+ and A+ certifications are preferred. Experience with GIS, EDEN, OSSI, or any public safety experience is advantageous. Applicants qualifying for employment will be subject to a polygraph examination and an extensive background screening. Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver's license and satisfactory driving history throughout employment. A comparable amount of training and/or experience may be considered.

The employee must occasionally lift and move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level is quiet to moderately loud. Occasionally, work may be stressful when adhering to stringent time constraints. Work is performed in a temperature-controlled modern office setting, primarily from a seated position at a modular workstation.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit and communicate effectively. The employee is occasionally required to stand and use hands and fingers to handle, feel, or operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms.
Benefits are available to FULL-TIME employees only.
The City of Miami Gardens offers a comprehensive benefits package, including 176 hours of Personal Time Off (PTO) in lieu of vacation and sick time and 12 paid holidays (11 holidays and 1 floating holiday).
The City participates in the retirement plan administered by the Florida Retirement System (FRS), which requires a mandatory 3% contribution.
